Emma's litter arrived Tuesday 5/5 via c-section at our repro vet!

She wasn't progressing into real labor outwardly so I texted my vet at 9am Tuesday (day 64) asking if she thought it made sense to come in for an ultrasound and progesterone, and in we went! Ultrasound showed full term puppies, and the progesterone showed she should be in active labor, which meant we needed to do a c-section. Evidently her uterus was so tight around the puppies any contractions would have just been squeezing them and not moving them anywhere. Seven puppies, as expected, 5 girls and 2 boys. One girl may have a midline defect, but she's gaining and as active as the rest of them so time will tell if there are any real issues. Emma was supplemented with folic acid throughout her pregnancy, sometimes things just happen!

Official theme, names and better photos will come at some point!

PSA while I'm stuck in the last ten days of waiting for puppies purgatory:

Please verify health testing on both parents of litters you are interested in!

For silkens, OFA health testing should include eyes, thyroid, and cardiac testing, and I strongly recommend echocardiograms. https://ofa.org/chic-programs/browse-by-breed/?breed=SWH

Those 3 are the absolute minimum that should be completed and up on OFA! Ideally MDR1 and CEA status are also on OFA. Pictured is what I view as the minimum to breed (Clover, one of my spayed dogs), and what Emma, mom of my upcoming litter who just turned 5 has.

Bringing puppies into this world is a huge gamble, and I want them to have the best lives possible! For me, that starts with the daily life my dogs live with me, includes health testing on the parents, and all the enrichment and experiences I can give them in their first 12 weeks.

Happy 5th Birthday to Minx's second litter!

Fae and Emma are here with me in Olympia, with Fae spayed and Emma about to be a mom for the second time. Zhara is in Portland having a blast with nosework and flyball and is a LGRA GRC and ASFA FCh. Phoebe is the farthest from Olympia (by a longshot) because she lives in California with my inlaws! She's a happy Cali girl who hikes in the redwoods and goes to the beach multiple times a week.

My dogs are family members who delight me every day and who I adore with every fiber of my being. Most of my life revolves around them. My smaller daily decisions and bigger breeding decisions are based on what is best for them. The reason I do so much health testing, raise the puppies the way I do, and spend so much time with puppy homes while raising a litter is because I want puppies' transitions to new homes to be as easy as possible and puppies' and my dogs' lives to be as content as possible. I want them to be confident and love being at home and out in the world with their people. I want them to be loved and fulfilled.

I have amazing owners who I am thankful for every single day. Dogs from me are living their best lives, doing activities they love, and cuddling their families. Seeing them thrive is a huge joy.

I am currently struggling with executive function for contacting (especially making phone calls to) applicants about my upcoming litter. I enjoy talking to people in person but stress about doing it over the phone! I am neurodivergent and normally find those tasks difficult, but I've been dealing with an influx of other (seemingly endless) adult life administration tasks recently and just haven't had any extra energy and been able to pull it together consistently.

If you've applied or contacted me and I haven't responded, it's because it's extra hard for me right now and I'm one human doing my best!

December has been busy!!

Liv has been having a blast with Jess in agility and the video is from last weekend in speed stakes! Kaladin was at UKC shows with Amanda this weekend and finished his UKC championship and then yesterday went on to win the champion class, best of breed, and group 1 his first time entered as a champion 🥰 I was there to hang out and support yesterday so I got to see his wins and snuggle him!

Earlier this month we had our Amethyst family and friends get-together and I took slightly late birthday photos of 6 of the 7 pups who just turned 1, along with some of the previous litters and friends 💜 London got some great candids outside! Before that I took Spren up to Sue's holiday party and got a couple of priceless photos of me with her from our friend Lee 🥰

The sports and shows are a smaller (& optional) part of life; it's the relationships (dogs with their humans, humans with each other, and extended family dogs with other humans and each other) that matter most and that I'm most grateful for!
