🐾 Bragi Pippin von Barenwald just turned 2, and he's taking his first steps into dog agility! ✨

To prep for the 6-foot outdoor crawl ladder, we set up a makeshift course in the music studio using bar stools. Tanwyn Liam and Zenzi Rose are cheering him on from the couch!

Taking training from the living room (or studio) to the yard can be tricky. Here is our Brio Noir Dog Training game plan for transitioning to the big agility yard:

1️⃣ Take the inside props outside first. Let them practice with familiar items before introducing the real ladder.
2️⃣ Gradually increase the distance. Add length incrementally to build confidence.
3️⃣ Keep it positive. Let them explore the new equipment with treats before asking them to perform.
4️⃣ Lure short sections. Reward heavily for the first foot or two!
5️⃣ Check the terrain. Keep those bellies safe from sharp twigs.
6️⃣ Fade the lure. Swap the treat for a hand signal, and throw a mini-party when they succeed! 🎉

⏳ Pro-Tip: Keep training sessions to 5-10 minutes to maintain maximum enthusiasm!

A Pack that Prays Together: Winter Bootcamp Progress! Indoor Training Ideas: the "Pray" Command

We’ve been hunkered down inside for the last few weeks working on fun commands like the "Pray" command, and I am so impressed with how all three dogs are progressing! It’s been the perfect way to burn off some mental energy while it's freezing outside.

These three never cease to amaze me with how quickly they pick things up when we put in the work. While the dogs don't seem to mind the cold, this handler definitely prefers the warmth of the music studio!

We aren’t quite finished yet—the foundation is there, so the next few days will be all about the "clean up" and adding those final polishing touches to the skill. Staying productive, focused, and cozy until the spring thaw!

When the winter weather turns the backyard into a sheet of ice, Brio Noir Dog Training moves from the grass to the studio. For the last few days, the music studio couch became the stage for a new skill: the "Shame" command.

It’s the perfect indoor project—low on cardio but high on "brain work," keeping the crew engaged while the wind howls outside. Bragi, Zenzi and Tanwyn are learning that the smallest movements often require the most focus.

In these quiet indoor moments, the training is about more than just a trick. It’s about building a common language between dog and handler. By teaching a dog to hide their eyes or target an object with such specific intent, we are sharpening their focus and strengthening our communication. The goal remains the same: to learn the techniques to live our best lives together, even when the weather keeps us off the trails.
