Our outdoor mushroom patch is starting to pop off ! 🍄

These mushroom grow blocks were contaminated with some sort of competing fungi. Usually we would toss these in the compost (which is very beneficial to our soil based plants). This time around we decided to see if Mother Nature could bring these babies back to life…. and she did !

All we did was dig a small trench, place the contaminated mushroom fruiting blocks in it, toss some Aspen wood chips on-top and water daily.

If we attempted to fruit these mushroom blocks inside our indoor fruiting chamber, the contamination could spread. When growing in a controlled environment the most aggressive fungus wins, which usually is mold 😩

Since we fruited these blocks outdoors, they were introduced to other competing organisms such as nematodes, bacteria, actinomycetes and more. This re-introduces the natural balance of nature, allowing the mushroom mycelium inside the fruiting block to have a chance to win the war to reproduce !

These mushrooms are called Piopinno or Piopinni. We also have Black Pearl Oysters and Lions Mane in this outdoor trench which we will hopefully see some life from soon 🙏
