The number one thing I see dog owners, dog trainers, and even dog training schools get wrong is the obsession with obedience and positions while completely ignoring fulfillment 🐶

For me, emotional regulation, fulfillment, and a sense of achievement matter far more than whether a dog can hold a perfect heel.

A dog can perform a command and still feel frustrated, anxious, disconnected, and overstimulated.

Fulfillment is what transforms dogs 🐾

But even then, a lot of people still get it wrong because they choose activities based on what THEY enjoy instead of learning to listen to the dog in front of them.

You have to learn how to listen to and observe your dog.

Whether you’re working on engagement, confidence, neutrality, play, reactivity, obedience, or relationship building, the goal is the same:

• A more fulfilled dog
• A clearer owner
• Better communication

The Reward Sound - Dog Training music video 🎶

03/14/2026

This song is about having clear communication with your dog. First, you must give meaning to the reward sound.

You can’t just start clicking away, though. Charging the reward sound is the first step. This means teaching the dog that a specific sound — like a click, “yes,” or “chirp” — predicts a reward.

Before the sound can communicate anything, the dog has to learn what it means. The sound becomes meaningful through repetition until the dog understands that hearing it always leads to something good. I usually do about 300 repetitions this way.

Example:
Make the reward sound and immediately give the dog a reward. Repeat this several times so the dog begins to expect the reward when they hear it. Many trainers also pair the sound with something easy the dog already knows — like sit or natural eye contact — then mark and reward.

This step is important because you can’t just use a random sound and expect it to mean anything to your dog. The sound only becomes clear communication after the dog has learned that it consistently predicts a reward. Once the reward sound is optimized, it becomes a precise way to tell the dog, “that exact moment was correct.”

Ultimately, this leads to clear communication with your dog because you are taking a picture with sound at the exact moment the dog performs the desired behavior.

So in the future, the sequence will be:
“Sit” → “Reward sound” → “Good sit” → “Free” (release cue) 🐾

Many don’t know this information! Remember every second matters during a choking incident.
1. Place the dog on their back. Brace the back against the floor. Straddle the dog while adjusting yourself based on the size of the dog. Position the head in “in-line position” with the airway parallel to the floor.
2. Make an open diamond shape with your hands. Place your thumbs on either side of the trachea below the ball or object. Grip the “V” of the jaw using lip/cheek to protect fingers.
3. Push with a J-stroke down and out against the ball until it ejects from the mouth.
Both this method and the Heimlich method has been proven to work in these scenarios so don’t hesitate to save your dog.

So interesting when different types of animals connect!

This is more rewarding than “commands” and “obedience” Those things are valid and have their place, but this is different!
