A Dog's Heart Sanctuary

A Dog's Heart Sanctuary Every dog deserves a soft landing. Seniors, retired breeders, and overlooked dogs are always our priority.

We provide lifelong sanctuary for dogs from puppy mills and backyard breeders, while helping some find loving forever homes through adoption.

Something to sleep on 🐾

Many people assume that when a dog leaves a puppy mill or commercial breeding program, they're immediately ready for a normal family life. The truth is, many have never experienced things most dogs take for granted.

Some have never walked on grass.

Some have never climbed stairs.

Some don't know what toys are, or that they're allowed to play with them.

Simple things like a soft bed, gentle affection, or hearing someone tell them they're a good dog can be completely new experiences. Watching those first moments of discovery is one of the greatest joys of sanctuary life. Every little milestone is a reminder that healing doesn't happen all at once; it happens one small victory at a time. Every dog deserves the chance to learn what it means to simply be a dog.

🐾 Meet Samwise! 🐾

Every dog here has a story, and today we'd love to introduce you to one of our sweetest residents.

Samwise is about 2 years old and came to us from an Amish breeder somewhere in the Millersburg area. These days, you'll usually find him throwing, yes, actually throwing dog toys around the backyard, chasing the evil streams of water inflicted upon the world by the hose, and dirty tail pulling. Especially dirty tail pulling. One thing everyone should know about Samwise? He's a quirky little boy, with a lot to say!

Leave a ❤️ in the comments to say hello to Samwise, and feel free to ask questions! He is a sanctuary dog, however, so this cutie isn't up for adoption.

People often ask us why we started a sanctuary instead of a traditional rescue. The answer is simple. Some dogs have spent years giving everything they had. Years in puppy mills. Years raising litter after litter. Years never knowing what it meant to simply be a dog. We wanted to create a place where they could finally rest. Today, that mission continues. While many of our dogs will live out their lives here surrounded by love, some are ready for forever families, and we're excited to help them find those homes.
Thank you for following along as we share their stories.
We can't wait for you to meet more of the sanctuary pack.

Hello all! We return once more with the sanctuary— as big and blooming as ever! These five are our latest rescues, Teddy, Pickle, Chip, Dale, and Rigatoni! Four of these babies already have loving homes, while the last is to be determined due to age.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of the sanctuary, and we can promise more to come from here on out!
