Socialization does NOT mean your dog needs to greet every person or every dog they see.

True socialization is about teaching your dog how to confidently navigate new environments, sounds, surfaces, objects, and situations. Juno wasn’t sure about this unsteady object at first, so we used positive reinforcement to help him work through that uncertainty. By the end, he realized it wasn’t scary it was actually FUN! 🐾

That’s why real life proofing is so important. We see this a TON.

Nami held this beautiful down stay while squirrels, birds, bikes, people, and plenty of other distractions passed by.

The goal isn’t just a dog who knows their commands. It’s a dog who can follow through on them when real life is happening around them.

You don’t have to set hours aside every day to train your dog. Find ways to make training part of the routine you’re already doing. I already had my little guy at the playground, so it was a great opportunity to work her around the sounds of children playing and get some really good confidence work in.

Consistency is such an important part of dog training. You can’t teach your dog something once and expect them to be a robot and remember it forever. Training is about repetition, reinforcement, and continuing to build those skills in everyday life.

I love seeing them have the freedom to run, explore, play, and just hang out without having to be on top of them every second.

That’s what all the training is for. Not to make them robots, but to give them the freedom to enjoy life.

Pretty sure I ended up with exactly the life I was supposed to have🐾
