Our Project Hail Mary pups are officially available!

These three 10-week-old Husky/Belgian Malinois mixes came from the North Slope and have been thriving in their foster homes. We’ve heard nothing but great things about each of them as they settle into rescue life!

Rocky is the only boy and the biggest of the group. His foster lovingly calls him a “land shark,” which is no surprise given his breed mix. He is incredibly sweet and affectionate, and he enjoys playing with other dogs. He has had limited exposure to cats, so slow, proper introductions will be important.

Grace is the gentle soul of the litter. While she absolutely has Malinois energy and drive, she tends to be the more even-tempered pup of the group. She enjoys playtime with her siblings but is also happy to entertain herself with toys. Grace is also quite chatty and absolutely loves being outside. She has had positive experience with cats.

Mary is pure Malinois through and through—confident, driven, and very true to her breed. She was born with a deformed ear; the tip is missing, but she can hear perfectly well and it does not affect her quality of life. Mary also has experience with cats. She’s also wonderfully silly—she loves to pick up rocks and organize them into little piles, keeping herself happily busy.

All three will require committed, experienced adopters familiar with high-drive working breeds. They are smart, energetic, and will thrive in homes ready to provide structure, training, and enrichment.

Jeannine is an amazing help to the animal activists community! We are so grateful for her and the hard work she puts into saving every soul she can.

UPDATE 6/9 : Our Give Butter Fundraising Campaign goal has been fully met! 2 Ruffland Kennels have been purchased and are already on their way to Jeannine! THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY OF GOOD PEOPLE!

PAWS of Nome is proud to spearhead the inauguration of WAAGA (Welfare & Animal Advocacy Groups of Alaska) - sharing our wealth of support is the first step to strengthening our communities and continuing to provide for those that feel that help is out of reach!

Just like every dog rescued adds up to thousands of lives saved every year - every dollar adds up to support the ongoing needs of outreach, as we address the root causes of the challenges we're facing across rural Alaska.

We are sponsoring a fundraiser for Jeannine Faulkner who needs and deserves some help getting those dogs out of hard-to-reach places. She operates outside of our service area, but her involvement has far-reaching effects and has a positive impact on the work we do for our communities.

Such a small ask for such a worthy cause, for a person who already gives SO MUCH for the animals and the people who love them!

DONATE FOR JEANNINE'S RESCUES!

We have a very special birthday to celebrate today! 🎉

Today, our Secretary, board member, and our “checks and balances” is turning 25! 🥳

Jordan was somewhat unwillingly thrown into the world of fostering when we started fostering in 2023. Every new foster came with a little grumbling, but it never took long before I’d catch him sneaking treats, giving extra cuddles, and becoming just as attached as the rest of us.

When it came time for me to step up as President, Jordan surprised me by volunteering to join the board after months of insisting he wouldn’t.

Jordan works full-time (and then some) so that I can stay home with our girls and run the rescue, and no matter how long his day has been, he jumps right into helping the moment he walks through the door.

He is a huge part of our day-to-day operations. When I brought home 25 cats, he immediately got to work building kennels. When I confidently promised we’d have foster homes lined up for a litter of puppies and instead ended up housing 8 of them for two months, he cleaned up countless messes without a single complaint.

Behind every rescue transport, foster animal, late-night emergency, and wild idea I come home with is Jordan, quietly making it all possible.

Golden Heart Animal Rescue simply wouldn’t be what it is today without him.

Please join us in wishing my husband, our board member, and one of the biggest hearts behind this rescue a very happy 25th birthday! ❤️🎂🐾

This is our farewell to Lucy. ❤️‍🩹

Lucy has been with us since she was just 6 weeks old, and in just a few days she will be turning 6 months old.

Over the last several months, Lucy has taken our rescue volunteers on a roller coaster of love, grief, hope, and uncertainty. More than anything, she reminded us that sometimes what we fear most is not always what comes to pass.

Before Lucy, our rescue experienced a lot of loss. We carried a lot of grief from the animals we couldn’t save. So when we were told that Lucy’s condition was serious and that her future was uncertain, my mind immediately went to the worst-case scenario. I convinced myself that one day I would lose her, and that it would break my heart.

Today, I am unbelievably grateful that my heart is breaking because Lucy was adopted.

Lucy taught us to celebrate the days we have instead of mourning the days we might lose. She reminded us that miracles don’t always look the way we expect them to, and that sometimes the ending we fear never comes at all.

Introducing our Project Hail Mary Litter! 🚀

Meet Rocky, Grace, and Mary!

These 10 week-old cuties made the long journey from Alaska’s North Slope to join us here in Fairbanks, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them into rescue.

We were told they are Belgian Malinois/Husky mixes, but we definitely think there may be a few more breeds mixed in there too!

🐾 Rocky is the only boy of the bunch and is as chill as can be! He loves squeaky toys, cozy naps, and soaking up every bit of affection he can get. If there are cuddles available, Rocky will be first in line.

🐾 Grace is a laid-back little lady who enjoys running around and playing with everyone, but she’s also perfectly happy entertaining herself with a toy or finding a quiet spot to relax.

🐾 Mary is a true Malinois puppy through and through! She has energy for days! Despite her busy little personality, she is incredibly sweet and loves curling up in your lap after a good play session. Mary was born with an ear deformity, and the tip of one of her ears is missing. We will be having her ear checked to ensure she is not deaf on that side, but so far she is a happy, confident puppy who doesn’t let it slow her down one bit.

All three puppies are exceptionally smart and are already doing fantastic with both potty training and kennel training. They are curious, social, and soaking up everything the world has to offer.

As with any young puppy, they will need adopters who are committed to providing continued training, socialization, and plenty of mental and physical enrichment as they grow. We expect these pups to be active, intelligent dogs who will thrive with families ready to invest the time and energy they need.

❤️ Applications will be opening soon, so keep an eye on our page for updates on these adorable little guys🚀🐶✨

Meet Our Scaredy Kitties 🐱❤️

These sweet cats have all come from difficult situations and are still learning that people can be kind. They may not be the cats who greet you at the door on day one, but with patience and love, they have so much potential.

🩺 McDreamy is a 4-year-old tabby who was found as a stray. After more than a month in rescue, he’s finally starting to trust. He has recently begun climbing into his foster’s lap—but only when he decides it’s time. McDreamy is looking for someone who understands that trust is earned and worth the wait.

🎸 Metallica is a young adult cat who came from a hoarding situation. He has been with us for a couple of weeks and is learning that pets can be a good thing. While he’ll accept affection, he’ll still run and hide if given the chance. When he’s had enough attention, he may hiss to let you know, but he has never swatted or shown aggression. He’s simply scared and learning to feel safe.

🎤 Taylor is the youngest of the group at around 10 months old. He has never hissed or swatted and happily accepts pets, but he’s still very timid. Despite being shy, Taylor is incredibly playful and loves toys once he feels comfortable enough to engage. He needs a patient home that will allow him to gain confidence, play, and come out of his shell at his own pace.

🧑‍🏫 Lecture is a young adult cat who is currently sporting a rather unique haircut after being shaved due to severe matting. Right now, he is the most shut down of the bunch. We often find him tucked away in tiny spaces, including a drawer he has claimed as his safe spot. If discovered, he’ll quickly scramble away. Lecture needs a calm, understanding home where he can learn that the world isn’t such a scary place.

These cats may not be the easiest adoptees, but they deserve loving homes just as much as any outgoing, confident cat. Sometimes the most rewarding relationships come from earning the trust of a scared animal and watching them discover what it means to feel safe.

Officially meet Lucy 🥹❤️

Lucy is a 5 (almost 6) month old Lab/Husky mix who currently weighs about 20 pounds. Due to her medical history, she will likely remain on the smaller side and will most likely not exceed 40 pounds when fully grown.

Lucy is quite the character! She’ll talk back like a toddler whenever she’s caught doing something naughty, and she plays like she’s three times her actual size. Her personality is bigger than life, and she keeps everyone entertained.

Lucy does wonderful with dogs, cats, and children. She is kennel trained, knows a few basic commands, and is incredibly smart—especially when treats are involved. She loves learning new things and is always eager to please.

She is also an excellent travel companion. Lucy rides beautifully in the car and recently got to experience her first boat ride on the Tanana River, where she happily settled down and relaxed.

As a young puppy, Lucy is still working on potty training. She can also have occasional excitement accidents if she’s held it too long.

While Lucy can be a little shy when meeting new people, once she feels comfortable, she is one of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs you’ll ever meet.

Lucy is a very special girl, and if we’re being honest, letting her go is going to be incredibly hard. Watching her beat the odds and grow into the amazing puppy she is today has been a privilege.

Because we’ve already received so much interest in her, we’re opening applications a little earlier than planned so we have time to carefully review and interview applicants to find the very best match for Lucy Lou.

If you’re interested in adopting Lucy, you can apply here:

If you have already submitted an application for Lucy, please do not reapply. We already have your application and have added you to her list of potential adopters.

Our rescue responses and communications will be delayed until Tuesday, May 26th.

Wishing everyone a safe weekend, and we hope you’ll join us in reflecting on the true meaning of Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

Against all odds, the universe had bigger plans for Lucy…🥹❤️‍🩹

On Tuesday, we brought Lucy in because we noticed some changes in her behavior that made us worry she might be declining. Our biggest priority was making sure she wasn’t in pain and that we were doing right by her.

To our absolute shock, Lucy is perfectly healthy… and apparently just a little drama queen 🤍😂

Getting her bloodwork back completely normal was something we can’t even put into words. We are so incredibly thankful to North Pole Veterinary Hospital for being so patient and kind while we tried to process everything.

Lucy also had additional labs and ultrasounds sent out of state to a specialist, and those results came back completely normal — not a single concern.

Which means… Lucy will officially be eligible for adoption!! 🎉🐶🤍

We will be holding one more Bakes for Lucy at the beginning of June to help lessen the financial burden from her many vet visits, diagnostics, and her upcoming spay surgery. Now that we know she is healthy enough for anesthesia.

One of our biggest fears was losing her during surgery because her body wouldn’t be able to handle it, but with such a crazy turn of events, that risk is now considered very low.

We still don’t quite understand how we went from where she was to where she is now, but we are SO thankful we got to love this girl and that she gets to live a long, happy, healthy life. 🥹

After preparing ourselves for heartbreak for so long, getting this news feels unreal.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated, shared her story, loved her, and hoped alongside us. Your kindness carried us through every scary moment.

Let’s hear it for Lucy!! 🎉
