Oh Miles...
A yr ago you came to W.A.R.M, terrified, broken, and trusted no one. You were so unsure of this new environment, you had to keep your body on my car because that was your safe space in the moment. You'd allow us in your kennel, but wanted nothing to do with us. With baby steps, you'd finally take food and treats out of our hands, sniff us a little closer when we weren't looking and let us get a few, literally 2 in months, successful leash attempts to take you for a walk. You knew we were trying and we could see you were trying too, but your walls weren't ready to come down and we knew it was going to be a long road for you to do so. All we wanted was to give you that big bear hug you needed and tell you you're ok now.
2.5 months later, with the help of your 4 legged friends, you finally let a few bricks from you wall crumble and your life changed from there. Every treat, pet, walk, "good boy" and brushing session helped you gain your confidence back and trust in us. Since then you've discovered your guardian roll and you take your job very seriously. You still have a lot to be comfortable with, but we are so proud of how much you've grown in a year. You're now a typical GP, stubborn AF, goofy, love all your animals, serious when it comes to your job, and did I say stubborn AF! The best part, we can give you that big bear hug you deserve! We love you Miles, happy gotcha day! πŸ’›

Huge thanks to Jo who made this video! I present to you, the many faces of Miles from Day 1 to Day 365.

Pigs...
Did you know they mourn the loss of a companion like we do?
Ziggy watched us load up his best friend and drive off. He hid under the cat room all day after.
I just read that if a pig can see their companions body and smell they have passed, it's easier for them to cope with the loss. When I got back with Ella Mae to bury her, I should've let him see her body, but I didn't even think about it and now I regret that.
Ziggy is mourning the loss of his best friend. He finally came out of his hiding spot last night. Today, he won't leave the area where he and Ella Mae slept. Megan had a stuffed animal delivered, in hopes it'd help. She propped it up against his igloo before she left and sent me the first pic. I came by about 15 mins later and he moved the stuffed animal to Ella Mae's spot where she always laid. 😭
In the winter they cuddled, in the summer she'd sleep up front and he sleeps in his igloo, where he could keep an eye on her. This breaks my heart all over again.
I feel absolutely horrible I didn't consider Ziggy's feelings yesterday. I was in a rush to ease her pain and didn't think about him witnessing us whisk his friend away and never bringing her back. I'm so sorry Zigs.
These animals have taught and continue to teach SO much.

Today did not go the way we wanted, but the universe was ready for Ella Mae even though we weren't ready to say goodbye.
She had a seizure this morning and her body was done after that. Since we couldn't get a vet out, she had to be taken to them 90 mins away. It was a tough ride, she had a few more seizures on the way, but being able to finally ease her pain made her passing more bearable.
We'll miss you Ella Mae, you were the sweetest pig since the day you came in and always had a smile on your face.
Thank you to everyone who helped out today, the WARM team is an amazing one! Megan, Petra, Vicki, Mike, Mike, Angela, my parents, Skylar and the team at Pineview Veterinary Hospital, I couldn't have made it through today without your help and prompt responses to the emergencies that just kept happening.

Ella Mae update, any vet techs out there who can stop by Sat am to give her a 2nd shot of antibiotic? I've only done chickens. So if I have to do a pig, I will, but rather a trained person do it.
She was doing better and then a quick decline. πŸ˜₯ Our pig vet team came out today to check her out and she is anemic. They took a blood sample, gave her a shot of ivermectin, iron and an antibiotic. It's possibly parasites, a bleeding stomach ulcer or mycoplasma. We are hoping it's not the ulcer.
So please send Ella Mae your well wishes and if you know a tech, please share to see if they can help with her 2nd shot.
