When you’re out hiking with a group of dogs (even well-behaved ones), remember the trail isn’t just yours. A hiker, runner, or biker coming through hasn’t signed up to navigate around a pack of dogs — even friendly ones can feel like an obstacle course to someone trying to get by.

Our rule: when we see someone approaching, we move the dogs to one side of the trail and ask for a sit-stay until they’ve passed. It takes 10 seconds and it means:

• No one has to awkwardly squeeze by or step off-trail into brush
• No leash tangles or surprise greetings someone didn’t ask for
• The dogs practice impulse control in a real-world distraction (bonus training win)

Simple version: they didn’t invade our space, so we don’t invade theirs.

A little courtesy goes a long way toward keeping trails welcoming for everyone — dog people and non-dog people alike.

🐾 Morning Trail Spotlight: Hirsh Family Native Habitat Walk, Studio City 🐾

If you’re looking for a great morning walk with your pup, this one’s a favorite of ours! Tucked right along the LA River, this shaded path is lined with native California plants and chaparral, and you’ll even pass some beautiful metal art installations along the way (keep an eye out for the heron sculpture!).

With heat advisories on the way this summer, this trail is a smart pick — it’s shaded early and stays cool longer than most spots in the area. Leashes are required, but the path is wide and mellow, perfect for a relaxed group walk.

Get there early, beat the heat, and let your dog enjoy some real nature. 🌿🐕

For over a decade, Jackie and her nest atop Big Bear Lake brought millions of strangers together through a single livestream — watching, hoping, and caring for a wild creature none of them could touch. She never set out to be an influencer, but through her quiet strength and her devotion to her partner Shadow and their chicks, she reminded us all why nature is worth protecting.

Jackie didn't just capture attention — she built community. She turned viewers into advocates, and curiosity into conservation.

Our warmest sympathy goes out to everyone who watched her story unfold, and to all who cared for her till the end.

Marty, the scraggly little white dog, decided to get away for the weekend and join us. Max and Hazel are here for daycare today.

With this hot, humid weather, even the kids voted for an afternoon movie matinee in the A/C. 🍿❄️
