Last weekend someone made the comment to me “what a blessing it is to spend your time with such great dogs.” And I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I love having a house full of really great dogs and clients who trust me with their best friends. I love hanging out in the evenings with a bunch of sleepy and fulfilled dogs. A camera roll with so many smiling faces, text message threads full of updates, a car that’s always dirty with dog hair 😂

Peep the last slide.

There was a dog attack recently locally that resulted in the death of a child. That dog has been identified as a pit bull, which I had no doubt was going to be identified as such when the story broke. THIS is what I’m talking about. THIS is why educated ownership matters. Why true breed advocacy matters. Why shelters and rescues should think twice about adopting out dogs that the average person cannot control or manage. Aggression is real. Dog aggression, human aggression, it’s real and it is not kind. We live in a soft society with harder dogs than we know what to do with.

Do not confuse my criticism of this sector of the dog community as hate. I have lived with very powerful bully breeds my whole adult life. I recognize the power and potential for danger. We MUST do better, be more responsible, and more critical of the dogs around us.

I don’t do this stuff on a whim. It’s not careless and without plan. I have spent literal years managing and learning neutrality and coexistence between dogs. I had some really hard but really great teachers when it comes to dogs. I’m blessed to have such good ones now. Luck didn’t bring me here, knowing what kind of dogs I like and what kind of dogs I want to do life with did. I’ve turned down numerous offers to own or co own dogs for this reason. My standards are incredibly high and I won’t apologize for it 💁🏼‍♀️

A good day with good pups! Between day camp girls and boarding dogs with specific needs, my days are jam packed. I truly want all of the dogs who stay with me to have the best time while I have them!
