Those with anxious/fearful/reactive doggos: Make 👏🏼 their 👏🏼 lives 👏🏼 easier 👏🏼 when 👏🏼 possible 👏🏼

Cooper is barrier reactive - he gets scared when he cannot access a human/dog in his space/territory. He wants to sniff them out to eliminate them as a threat. This comes out as barking and lunging.

Small things I do to make situations less stressful:

🐶 Take him outside to greet visitors before they enter our home. Sniff. Identify as safe human. Welcome into home.

🐶 Let him get to know the neighbors in our apartment complex. He’s always seeing them come and go from inside. He knows they are safe humans, and that they belong here.

🐶 Create distance between Cooper and cars while we are on walks. If an unknown car drives in our neighborhood, or an unknown human is walking by, Cooper will bark/lunge out of frustration. He wants to protect our neighborhood by inspecting everything/anyone that enters 😅 Creating distance from these triggers and rewarding with treats has helped tremendously

Are these things embarrassing at times? Heck yes. But at the end of the day, some dogs just need a little extra support and that is OKAY 🐶❤️❤️❤️
