If you’re afraid to make the wrong decision with your horse, listen to this. 🐴

One of the hardest parts of horse ownership can be the constant wondering…

“Am I doing this right?”
“Should I correct that?”
“Should I let it go?”
“What if I make this worse?”

And the more you second-guess yourself, the harder it becomes to make any decision confidently.

Here’s the thing:

You are going to make mistakes.

I am. Trainers do. Experienced horse owners do.

The goal isn’t to make the perfect decision every single time. The goal is to learn how to read your horse, understand your options, and make a thoughtful decision based on what you’re seeing in front of you.

And if you genuinely don’t know what to do? Ask for help.

Getting an experienced trainer or knowledgeable horse person involved isn’t a failure. Sometimes the most confident thing you can do is say, “I need another set of eyes on this.”

Confidence doesn’t come from always knowing the answer.

It comes from learning that you can handle not knowing and figuring it out. 🤍

Something else horse trainers don’t always tell you…

You’re not supposed to know everything.

There is so much pressure in the horse world to look like you know what you’re doing.

To have the perfect answer.
To know exactly what exercise to do.
To never get confused.
To never have a bad ride.

But horses don’t come with an instruction manual and every horse is different.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is say, “I’m not sure.”

Then take a step back, observe your horse, try something simpler, or ask someone with more experience for help.

Being a confident horse owner doesn’t mean having all the answers.

It means knowing how to figure out what your horse needs and knowing when you need help figuring it out.

And honestly? That’s something I wish more horse owners heard. 🤍🐴

Something most trainers won’t say…

Trainers can get scared too. 😬🐴

Yep. Even trainers who have spent years working with horses can have moments where their confidence gets shaken.

A bad experience, a horse that catches you off guard, or simply being out of your comfort zone can make you second-guess yourself.

It doesn’t mean you’re a bad horse person. And it doesn’t mean you’ve lost all your confidence. My little tip? Don’t just avoid the thing that scares you. Work through it—but at a level that feels manageable. Build those small wins and gradually work your way back up.

And if you’re struggling to work through it on your own, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with getting help from an experienced trainer. Sometimes having someone there to give you direction and a little confidence can make all the difference.

Working through those uncomfortable moments is key. Confidence isn’t about never being scared—it’s about learning that you can feel scared and still keep moving forward. 🤍

Desensitizing in a relaxed environment, and letting them choose their comfort level is the best! Boaz chose bravery today!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend! This weekend was the Norco Fair and the Norco Cowgirls outdid themselves! I always love seeing them preform, such a beautiful display of horsemanship!

Today was another little milestone for Maple. 💕🐴
She got to officially meet and hang out with Boaz! Of course, Maple had to make sure he understood the rules first—with a couple squeals, some very serious “mare face,” and a clear message that she might be the boss around here. 😂
Thankfully, Boaz seemed to accept her terms, and before long, they were just hanging out together like old friends.
Giving our horses time to simply be horses—to socialize, graze, play, and spend time with their friends—is such an important part of their mental health. Turnout with friends is a priority for all of our horses, and Maple is slowly getting to meet different members of the herd and figure out where she belongs.
One new friend at a time, she’s finding her place. ❤️
And Boaz? Well… he’s officially been introduced to Maple’s management style. 😂

🐴 More Than Riding Lessons
At SK Equine Academy, we believe learning to ride is only one part of becoming a confident, knowledgeable horseman.
Our lessons focus on gentle horsemanship and well-rounded equine education, helping students develop a true partnership with their horse through kindness, communication, consistency, and respect.
Students learn more than what happens in the saddle—including:
🤍 Groundwork & communication
🐴 Horse care & handling
🌿 Riding skills & confidence
📚 Equine knowledge & responsibility
✝️ Christ-centered character and values
Our goal is to help each student grow not only as a rider, but as a capable, compassionate horseman who understands and cares for their equine partner.
Whether your child is brand new to horses or already has riding experience, we want to help them build a strong foundation that lasts a lifetime.
Strong in the saddle. Strong in life. 🤍
