Willow and Indy as babies!!!

One of the first things we did when we got Willow and Indy settled in the barn was get their current geolocation updated in The Jockey Club ID My Thoroughbred app.

The bonus of using the app is it actually lets us see their baby photos. Here are Willow and Indy when they were first registered as babies. 😍

Indy and Willow arrived safely back at the farm, and they settled in right away.

We'll be monitoring them closely tonight, and we will have their first veterinary checks starting tomorrow.

💜 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗜 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗬 𝟰𝟴𝗧𝗛 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗗𝗔𝗬.

Today is October 23, and instead of celebrating my birthday at home with Sean and the mares, I woke up in another hotel room in Ashland, Kentucky, continuing our efforts to bring Indy and Willow home.

It's been an exhausting and emotional week, and there are moments when the weight of everything feels overwhelming. But even in the middle of this incredibly difficult situation, there's so much to be grateful for.

I'm grateful for Sean, for everyone helping keep things running at home, for our attorneys, for the law enforcement officers and investigators working on this situation, and for the thousands of people who have shared our posts, sent information, offered help, and reminded us that we're not facing this alone.

Mareworthy is a volunteer-run nonprofit, and the time, travel, and legal expenses involved in this effort are substantial. But these two mares are part of our family, and we're going to keep doing everything we legally can to bring them home.

A reminder that just because you don't see everything happening behind the scenes doesn't mean we're not taking action. We are actively pursuing every appropriate legal avenue available to us to bring Indy and Willow home safely.

As reflected in the public court records, both criminal proceedings involving Marlo Matheny and Mareworthy's civil action are moving forward. Our civil hearing is currently scheduled for October 28.

We are still looking for Indy and Willow, but we are incredibly grateful to know Kentucky Horse Council is supporting the care of the horses who were successfully removed from Marlo's property on Sunday.

🚨𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 🚨

The Kentucky Horse Council is providing comprehensive equine care to the horses involved in the Ohana Run/Marlo Matheny case, in coordination with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Boyd County Sheriff's Office.

The KHC is providing veterinary assessments, tailored nutritional plans and ongoing husbandry support to ensure the safety and recovery of the many horses involved.

The KHC is ensuring each horse receives dedicated veterinary evaluations and rehabilitation protocols, as well as targeted refeeding plans. Veterinarians and KHC staff will continue to provide care and assistance throughout the lengthy process.

Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Boyd County Sheriff’s Office Announce Arrest of Operator of Ohana Run Farm
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) and Boyd County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Marlo Matheny, operator of Ohana Run Farm, for Animal Cruelty, 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor—the highest charge available under Kentucky law for livestock abuse.
According to the arrest affidavit, Matheny is accused of intentionally failing to provide adequate food, water, and health care to two horses. Both horses were described as severely malnourished, with open wounds and body condition scores of 1. One horse also suffered from a severe lice infestation.
KDA initiated the investigation with assistance from the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office. Multiple state agencies and organizations—led by the generous resources donated by the Kentucky Horse Council—continue coordinating efforts to ensure the horses receive appropriate care.
The investigation remains ongoing and no further details are available at this time. KDA is working to identify the legal owners of horses and asks anyone with information regarding their ownership to contact [email protected].

Today, October 22, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and Boyd County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Marlo Matheny.

Mareworthy also obtained a temporary restraining order from the Boyd Circuit Court this morning, which has now been served on Marlo. The order addresses the protection and recovery of Indy and Willow, including access to information about their whereabouts and any transfers.

𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪: 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗.

I'm still in the area personally following up on information, and we've made significant progress through the legal process. While there are details we cannot share publicly, please know that our efforts to bring these two mares home are continuing.

I'd much rather be home at the farm, surrounded by the mares, than spending another night in a hotel room far from home.

But the only reason I'm away from the farm right now is because I'm working to locate Indy and Willow and bring them home safely. They're our top priority, and if that means a few nights away from my own bed, so be it.

Some things are worth the extra miles and restless nights away from home. 💜🐴
