The male human of the sanctuary stopped at Dutch Bros Coffee today, not realizing it was National Dog Day, and came home with a mystery dog bandana! 🐾💙

Obviously, Molly was more than happy to model it for us and is now officially a .

She has also been informed that apparently there was maybe a pup cup involved in this whole National Dog Day situation… and would like to know why she did not receive hers. 😂

We’ll be correcting that oversight immediately. 🫡🐶

YOU GUYS DID IT!!! 😭🎉🐾

All $500 of our match has officially been claimed, which means $1,000 is coming OFF that vet bill!!

Seriously, THANK YOU. ❤️

$5 donations. $10 donations. $20 donations. People sharing our posts and cheering us on. It all added up and YOU GUYS GOT US THERE!

This is exactly how we’re going to do this. We don’t need one person to magically make a giant vet bill disappear. We’re just going to keep chipping away at it together, one little chunk at a time.

And tonight?

That bill is $1,000 smaller. 🥹

And apparently someone heard we were celebrating and requested a celebratory car ride. 😂

We think Nathan’s face pretty accurately sums up how we’re feeling right now.

WE DID IT! ❤️🐾

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Rub-a-dub-dub, oldies & wheelies in the tub 🛁😂

Okay so Saturdays are bath day… whether everyone agreed to that or not. 😂

We had some stinky oldies, some dirty oldies and some who probably didn’t actually need a bath but unfortunately made eye contact at the wrong time. 🤷‍♀️

Everyone is now clean, fluffy, has fresh blankets and is probably plotting against us.

BUT while we have your attention with cute wet dogs… we owe you guys an update!

Remember our $500 match?!

You guys have donated $232!! 🥹

Which means we’re ALMOST HALFWAY THERE and only need $268 more to unlock the entire match and knock $1,000 off our vet bill!

And because $268 sounds like a lot more than it actually is…

🫧 27 people giving $10
🫧 14 people giving $20
🫧 6 people giving $50

Okay technically that last one puts us over, but I don’t think anyone is going to complain. 😂

We really, really want to finish this match and tell our incredibly generous supporter that you guys did it.

Because $1,000 GONE from that vet bill gets us that much closer to getting the oldies who have been patiently waiting caught up on THEIR medical care.

So if you’ve got $5, $10 or $20 to throw toward the oldies today, it’s still being DOUBLED! ❤️

And if you can’t donate, share our freshly scrubbed little weirdos instead. 😂🛁

$232/$500 — just $268 to go!

This. This is why we do it. ❤️

If you’ve been around for a while, you probably remember Taxi.

Taxi came into Norman Animal Welfare in June 2023 unable to use her back end. She was paralyzed, dragging herself around and obviously… we couldn’t leave her there.

So Taxi came to Silver Paws.

After SIX weeks of crate rest, this little girl GOT UP AND WALKED. 😭 Are her legs completely normal? Absolutely not. 😂 She’s got some crazy legs that occasionally seem to have plans of their own. But Taxi can WALK.

And more importantly, she has absolutely thrived.

She’s happy. She’s spoiled. She’s safe. She’s loved. And while we think she’s on the younger side, she’s probably officially creeping into those “senior years” now.

But here’s the part of rescue that doesn’t always make the dramatic posts…

We show you the scary intake picture. We show you the emergency vet visits. We celebrate when they make it. And then… they stay.

They become ours. And they still need us.

Taxi is actually one of the residents waiting for her yearly senior appointment right now.

Not because she isn’t important.

Because she’s doing SO GOOD that every time another emergency comes along, it’s easy to say, “Taxi can wait.”

That’s exactly what we’re trying to change. Right now we still owe close to $10,000 from our most recent rounds of surgeries, emergency care and routine visits. Before we add more appointments to that bill, we need to bring that balance DOWN.

And today someone is helping us do it. 🥹

A supporter reached out and offered a $500 MATCH!

Every dollar donated, up to $500, gets DOUBLED.

$5 → $10
$10 → $20
$25 → $50
$50 → $100

If we raise $500, they’ll add another $500 and $1,000 comes straight off our vet bill.

That’s $1,000 closer to telling Taxi:

Okay crazy legs, it’s finally your turn. 😂

We’re going to do this one bill, one match, one $5 donation and one oldie at a time.

Our goal is to head into our anniversary on October 9th with that old vet balance behind us and our patiently waiting residents finally getting their turns.

So if you’ve got $5 today, it’s worth $10.

Can’t donate? Share our crazy-legged girl’s story. Because that happy little face in the second picture?

That’s what all those vet bills bought us. ❤️

Well… we did one last thing. 🤦‍♀️

Meet Molly. ❤️

Molly is 10 years old, and the last month of her life has been a lot.

Her mom died.

Before she died, it sounds like Molly’s mom tried really hard to make sure her dogs would be okay. An employee at the store where she shopped told us she had bought hundreds of dollars worth of food for them before her death so they’d be taken care of.

After she died, Molly and her senior sister ended up at the shelter.

Then Molly watched her sister get chosen while she stayed behind.

Because when you’re a small, adorable little Schnauzer, finding a new family can happen pretty quickly.

When you’re 10 years old, bigger, and pretty significantly overweight?

It can be a little harder.

So Molly stayed.

And somehow, after losing her person, her home, her sister, and spending the last month in a shelter, this girl is HAPPY.

Like ridiculously, wonderfully happy. 😂❤️

She’s had a whole group of people rooting for her. The shelter manager advocated for her. An employee at the store where her mom bought their food advocated for her. People who know how much we love the old, overlooked ones kept making sure her name didn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Eventually, Molly’s story made its way to us.

And you guys know we’re suckers for the ones who get left behind.

So…

Welcome to Silver Paws, Molly. 🥹❤️

The shelter staff has already done an AMAZING job with her. Molly has lost FIVE whole pounds while she’s been there! 🎉

She still has quite a ways to go, but she is officially headed in the right direction.

Overall, she seems to be in pretty decent health. She has a small limp on her right rear leg that we’re hoping is just from an old, healed injury, but we’ll get it checked to be safe. She’ll also get her senior exam, bloodwork, vaccines, and whatever else she needs to get completely caught up.

And Molly is going to be our last intake for a little while.

That’s a hard sentence for us to write.

Because there will always be another Molly.

Another senior sitting in a shelter.

Another medical case.

Another dog whose story makes us say, “Okay… just ONE more.”

And that’s exactly how we got here.

We’ve spent so much time trying to help the next urgent animal that some of the animals we’ve already said yes to have been waiting for us to catch up.

The dental that could wait.

The yearly bloodwork that could wait.

The vaccines that could wait.

The surgery that wasn’t quite an emergency.

There was always something more urgent.

Until eventually, “it can wait” turned into “it’s waited long enough.”

So with Molly safely here, Silver Paws is officially going on intake hold.

Between now and our anniversary on October 9, we’re turning our attention to the animals already here.

No new intakes.

We’re going to take care of our own. ❤️

Over the next several weeks, we’re going to introduce you to some familiar faces you may not realize have been waiting for their turn.

But we’ll get to all of that.

Today is Molly’s day.

One last old lady got her yes.

Welcome home, Molly. 🐾❤️

We don’t want to make this post.

After one final dog we’ve already committed to arrives, we are going on a firm intake hold.

Our vet bill is currently $11,150.72. We have too many animals in our care and too much money already owed to keep saying yes.

And that really, really sucks.

Because there will be another senior sitting in a shelter. Another owner begging for somewhere safe for their old dog to go. Another dog who needs expensive medical care that nobody else wants to take on.

And right now, we have to say no.

We can’t keep taking animals in and just hope the money eventually catches up. The animals already here deserve better than that.

So for now, our goal is simple: get this vet bill to $0.

If you can donate, please do. If you’ve been thinking about joining the Pawsie, even $5 a month gives us reliable support we know will be there every month. And we are so incredibly thankful for the people who already do that for us.

We want to get back to saying yes.

But first, we have to take care of everyone we’ve already said yes to.

$11,150.72.

That’s our current vet bill.

It didn’t come from one huge emergency or one incredibly expensive dog. It came from doing what we do every single day.

It’s new intakes getting the bloodwork and care they need. It’s dentals for seniors who have lived with painful mouths for far too long. It’s mass removals, spays and neuters, medications, supplements, antibiotics, follow-up appointments, and peaceful end of life care when the time comes.

Some of the animals pictured here needed relatively simple care. Others needed thousands of dollars worth.

Every single one of them was worth it.

We built Silver Paws Golden Days to be the rescue that could say yes to the old ones, the sick ones, and the complicated ones—the animals who aren’t always easy or inexpensive to save.

But saying yes comes with a bill.

Right now, ours is $11,150.72, and we need your help bringing that number down.

You can make a one-time donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever feels doable. Every dollar chips away at this bill and gives us more room to say yes to the next animal who needs us.

Or, if you want to help us long after this bill is paid, join the Pawsie. ❤️

Our monthly supporters are the people we know have our backs every single month. Whether it’s $5 or $50, that dependable support means we can plan for medications, routine care and all the very unroutine things that come with loving senior and special needs animals.

And we are so incredibly thankful for them.

Can’t donate right now? Share this post. Truly. Getting these faces in front of someone new can make just as much of a difference.

Donate once. Join the Pawsie. Share.
However you choose to stand behind these oldies, thank you for helping us keep saying yes.
