Lew Burke's Dog Training

From frightened to joyful on the stairs.

Starting to enjoy the bus.

Walking confidently over manhole covers.

Holding perfect down-stays as dogs walk right by.

This is the transformation.

Country dog → city dog.

These steep metal stairs were once a nightmare for Millie.

Now?

She can’t wait to go down them.

Same stairs. Same sounds.

A completely different experience.

From fear to fun.

That’s the transformation.

Steep metal stairs.

They make the same sounds as the grates Millie has been terrified of.

A double challenge.

Here she is too frightened to go down… and then comes the moment of truth.

So proud of Millie and her courage.

What you see in a short video doesn’t begin to show how big this accomplishment really is.

Millie has always been afraid of stairs.

Today, we take on these giant metal stairs at the train station.

Let’s see what she does.

Amsterdam is a city of bridges.

For Millie, they’re another world to learn.

The elevation. The open space. The water below. The movement and sounds around her. The different surfaces beneath her feet.

She needs to be ready for what she sees, what she hears, and what she feels.

Because getting to Amsterdam isn’t enough.

She needs to be ready to experience it.

Country dog to city dog.

Millie’s second bus session.

The training starts before the bus arrives.

Crowds. Noise. Movement. Waiting. Then boarding.

We’re building confidence through the entire experience, not just the ride.

Details matter. And Millie is getting better every moment we work through them.

For all four years of her life, Millie has intensely pulled her humans on walks.

Now, getting her to move slowly in a heel while surrounded by urban triggers is a powerful measure of her progress.

The things that once made her pull aggressively are becoming opportunities to work through her anxiety.

Super proud of her progress.
