Today, I lost “my first born child” Mindy 💔🌈✨

I can’t even speak. It hurts so much.

She was my rock, my everything, the sweetest pain in the ass. She’d been with me since she was six weeks old, and we went through so many seasons together.

She never stopped pushing me to become a better person. She was a lil’ bitch in the best way possible. 💜

She taught me so much—not just about dogs, but about life itself.

I’m so grateful that I got to spend 13+ years together with her. ❤️

Rest easy, Baby Girl 🌈✨🤎
Until we meet again…

I’ve been taking a break from social media but we’ve been super busy behind the scenes 🥳
Boarding dogs coming and going, meetings with new clients, filming custom training videos for my online students, and working on some exciting projects for the business. How’s your summer going?

These moments matter! Time in nature gives dogs the opportunity to explore, move their bodies, engage their senses, and simply be dogs. With several smoky days likely ahead, it felt important to fill my pup’s cup before we hunker down indoors.

We squeezed a quick off-leash adventure in before the air quality turned unhealthy (due to wildfires) 😷

With temperatures pushing 98°F, we kept it short, intentional, and ended while everyone still felt okay in this heat. 🥵

Stay safe everyone, and keep your pups safe too! 💜

Obedience training has its place — especially for dogs who already feel stable emotionally and simply need structure, manners, or clearer communication. It can be great for teaching everyday skills like leash walking, place, recall, greetings, waiting at doors, or basic household boundaries.

But many pet dogs struggle with far more than “not listening.”

Behavioral training focuses on the *why* behind the behavior — the dog’s emotional state, stress levels, nervous system regulation, communication, genetics, fulfillment, environment, and ability to process the world calmly and clearly.

A dog can know “sit” perfectly and still struggle with:
• Reactivity
• Anxiety
• Fearfulness
• Frustration
• Over-arousal
• Excessive barking
• Poor social skills
• Separation issues
• Obsessive behaviors
• Shutdown behavior
• Leash explosions
• Hypervigilance outdoors
• Inability to settle
• Impulse control struggles
• Insecurity around dogs, people, sounds, or environments

This is why obedience alone often fails dogs and their owners in real life. Commands don’t automatically change emotions.

Anyone can teach a dog to sit for a cookie.
Helping a dog genuinely feel safer, calmer, clearer, and more functional in everyday life is a completely different level of training.

There is a lot in such a short video:”off switch” aka switching between drives on cue, functional obedience, impulse control, properly conditioned “nope” marker, real life skills, nervous system regulation, self-soothing, and trust in his handler just to mention a few.

Mindset and nervous system state matter more than you think

Luther continuing to build confidence, communication skills, and the ability to peacefully coexist with other dogs. Small social moments like these are actually huge wins for reactive dogs.

Normally, I post every day Monday through Friday and when I skip a day or two, this is why 🤣
Sometimes things just don’t go as planned and that’s okay. You just gotta roll with it and have fun!

A calm state of mind before eating helps dogs digest better, think more clearly, and avoid rehearsing frantic or overly aroused behavior around food.

When dogs settle before meals, their body can shift from survival mode into rest-and-digest mode, which supports healthier digestion and emotional regulation.

Calm feeding routines help dogs practice impulse control, lower stress levels, and create a more balanced relationship with food.

A dog who can relax before eating is more likely to digest comfortably, stay mentally balanced, and avoid building food-related frustration or chaos.
