🇪🇬 120 million people. 23 million in Cairo alone. And still climbing.
That’s the scale problem behind everything we saw building in Egypt’s controlled environment agriculture scene at Greentech 2026. Egypt already runs the largest greenhouse project in the Middle East — because when you’re feeding this many people on this little land, with water scarcity and currency pressure stacked on top, CEA isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s infrastructure.
We’ve been on the ground for this: partnering on labor-gap research, running workshops in Cairo, and now working on new developments across the country.

What does a resilient rural economy look like?

At Agritecture, we’re helping answer that question alongside Prince William County, Virginia, through an Agribusiness & Agritourism Study designed to support long-term rural prosperity.

The initiative is developing a customized rural business development strategy that balances economic growth with the preservation of the County’s unique historic, cultural, and natural assets.

Canada just put $750 million behind controlled environment agriculture.
Canadians import 88% of their fresh fruit and 72% of their vegetables, and grocery inflation hit 9.8% in 2022. This June, Canada’s first National Food Security Strategy gave the industry its own dedicated funding: $650 million for automation and tech upgrades, $100 million for rural and northern communities, plus a new $1 billion project financing fund.
The goal: double domestic CEA sales to $1.55 billion by 2032.
It’s the largest dedicated investment in controlled environment agriculture in Canadian history.

A greenhouse that looks stunning in a rendering can still fail as a farm.
The difference usually isn’t design quality. It’s sequence.
When the building gets designed first and the farm economics get reverse-engineered to fit, the farm struggles. When the growing operation gets modeled first, agronomy, capital, climate, then the building gets shaped around it, the project actually has a chance.
We broke down why using a real case study: a bold farm-in-a-building proposal for Chicago that got stress-tested hard the moment it went public.
Form follows function. For a working farm, function means photosynthesis, climate control, and unit economics, not just how it looks.

The future of GCC cities isn’t greener lawns. It’s productive landscapes.
Across the region, a new generation of masterplans is treating agriculture, wadis, and recycled water not as features to add later, but as systems that can help shape entire districts.
This represents a major departure from the ornamental landscapes that have traditionally defined “green” development across the Gulf.
But integrating productive landscapes is not automatically sustainable.
Without the right relationship between water availability, land use, crop selection, infrastructure, operations, and local context, ambitious concepts can quickly become expensive mistakes.

FIFA spent over $5 million and five years solving a problem that should sound surprisingly familiar to anyone working in Controlled Environment Agriculture.
How do you keep natural grass alive, healthy, and match-ready inside stadiums that weren’t designed to support living plants?
The answer wasn’t more groundskeeping.
It was LED grow lights, engineered root zones, climate controls, and cold-chain plant logistics.
But the biggest takeaway isn’t about football.

How do you grow spinach at scale without losing yield to root-zone stress?

LettUs Grow’s ultrasonic aeroponic technology uses high-frequency sound waves to turn water into a fine aerosol, allowing roots to develop in an oxygen-rich environment rather than sitting in standing water. The result is a healthier root system and improved crop resilience.

The result: faster, healthier, more resilient crops — especially spinach, which has long struggled in standard hydroponic systems.

The proof: 60-65 kg/m²/year validated yields, well above the industry’s usual 20-30 kg.
