Welcome to Hel's Kitchen! 😈🎂🍽️🥣🔥

Through the goddess Hel, it explores women’s internal struggles against
societal expectations. Humor around domestic failures
masks anxieties about the erosion of women’s rights.

The pastel kitchen, dysfunctional tools, and parody cooking shows encourage
reflection on political threats to women’s autonomy.ellingsen

Artist Statement:
Norwegian artist Lise Ellingsen explores themes of End Times, apocalypse, chaos, sacredness, desecration, fate, and dystopia in an immersive game-within-a-game installation, Norse Cosmos Claw Game. This is an interactive project inspired by Norse mythology, spiritual traditions, social media obsessions, and advertising tropes—visitors enter into, participate in, and watch themselves gamble with the consequences of a game of chance.

🙏🏻❤️ Thank you to and for finding a new home for my monoprints. I’m so honored they will now hang in someone’s home in Norway. 🇳🇴🖼️

Print on the left: Valkyrie
Based on a bronze figurine of a Valkyrie from a find in Hårby, Denmark, dating back to the 7th century, I created my own character. In Norse mythology, Valkyries were powerful female figures who chose those who would die in battle and those who would live, guiding the fallen to Valhalla. Historically, they represented courage, fate, and divine strength, and are among the few mythological female figures entrusted with real power. My Valkyrie is also, in a way, a self-portrait—imbued with my own expression and interpretation.

Print on the right: Odin
Based on a figurine of Odin from Lindby, Sweden, dating to the 7th century, I created my own version of this character. In Norse mythology, Odin is the all-father and the chief of the gods, known for his relentless pursuit of wisdom. He famously sacrificed one of his eyes at Mímir’s well in exchange for profound knowledge, a reminder that true insight often comes with great sacrifice.
