I had not been a fan of dogs having their own Instagram until I came across .dog and I HAD to follow him. He was incredibly cute, and such a well mannered dog he would be posed in so many adorable ways. He had giant paws and shorter legs and an oblivious content stare. It was during the pandemic when we all need a little joy somewhere and his Instagram became a daily source of smiles for me to share and gush with . Dash became viral when another attendee at a Mariners game filmed his human taking his picture with a hot dog in his mouth. It became more than a cute profile to me when he started fundraising for blood cancer and there were causes his likeness helped bring funds and attention to. This was the motivation I needed to get back active in the lockdown and complete his virtual 5k.

This November I adopted a dog of my own, Dahlia and affectionately called her Dahlia.dog after Dash - she too has big paws and stumpy legs. And bought her a hedgehog because that was Dash’s favorite toy and we wanted her to have one too.

When I started making decals for I wanted to make one for myself as an iron-on decal for my silhouette case. I couldn’t think of anything I enjoyed enough to make specifically for me so I made the first thing I thought of, a portrait of Dash (pictured).

This week the inevitable happened and Dash crossed over the rainbow bridge and this loss feels profound. His memory and the good done in his honor will continue on and his legacy will surely bring joy, kindness and more good in the world in his little pup brother, it still hurts to know he’s gone. It a loss that’s challenging to speak about because I didn’t know him personally but through social media he was a part of my daily life. I’ve lost a dog before and these feelings of love and sadness don’t ever go away and i empathize for his human and all who loved him in person and online.

May Dash’s memory forever be a blessing and may he rest in peace and maybe all the hearts heavy with this loss get lighter each day.
