We had a wonderful weekend in Harrisburg, PA at the Blue & Grey Cluster 2026.

Willow’s bred-by puppy, Shiitake, earned two Group 3 placements on Saturday under judges Ryann Grady and Carrie A. Chase. We are incredibly proud of this young dog and so pleased with her first show.

A heartfelt thank you to Sarah Sears of Aoiyama Sou Shikoku for entrusting us with this special girl — we are so excited for what the future holds with her.

What a start to Mushi’s AKC career! 🩶 🖤 🤍 🐕 🇯🇵

This weekend in Harrisburg, PA, she goes BOB from the 4-6 month old puppy class (against 3 other adult breed entries) and tops it off with a wonderful Group 4!! Thank you to judge Ryann Grady for this memorable win!

Hon No Mushi Go Yakumo Sou is a US bred Japanese Akita and we are so proud of her.

Our girl Ineko that we co-own with Aoiyama Sou Shikoku is available for a nice retirement home.

She has been such a lovely addition to our life but after several attempts to make adjustments to make her happier here in our new lifestyle, we feel she will benefit far more from a home where she can have all the attention she wants.

**Currently pending placement**

Ineko Go Aoiyama Sou - Ineko is looking for a quiet retirement home. She has struggled to adapt to the busy lifestyle of her co-owner's professional boarding and training kennel, and would do best in a lower-traffic household. Ineko is cat safe and could do well with a dog companion of either s*x but we would prefer fewer animals so she can get all the attention she deserves ❤️

The past year has been a quieter one for Akagawa Roushya. 🤍
We’ve been in a season of change—building a new home for ourselves and our dogs, settling into new routines, and finding our footing again in a new space.

Through that process, we’ve learned a lot about ourselves, our dogs, and what we want the future of our program here in New York to look like.

As many of you know, we are preservation breeders at heart. We do this because we deeply love the breeds we work with and want to see them remain healthy, sound, and cherished for generations to come. We’ve never been a high-volume program—quality, intention, and the well-being of our dogs have always come first.

With that said, we’ve realized a small shift in our program is needed. Over the next few months, you’ll start to see changes to our website, social media, and the overall direction of Akagawa Roushya as we realign with what matters most to us.

As part of this transition, we will also be thoughtfully placing a handful of our older dogs into carefully chosen homes. These dogs are an extension of us and our program, and they deserve homes that can give them everything they need—and more—for this next chapter of their lives.

When we begin sharing information about them, there will be a link to an application for those interested in starting a conversation about whether one of these dogs might be the right fit.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding as we move forward with intention and care. 🐾🤍

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of bringing Mikazuki go Yakumo Sou to her very first Baby Puppy Show!

We couldn’t be prouder of Willow, who has worked so hard in handling class and with her at-home practice. She’s earned her very first official win photo!

A big thank you to Dr. John V. Loia for making her debut in the ring such a great experience. It’s always wonderful to have judges who truly appreciate the breed and are eager to learn more.

Kitsu did not run at Earls, though he has been tested on hogs and showed some serious interest.

He did however get assessed and get a few baby finds under his belt for a new venture in HRD!

Thank you DNA K9 for meeting us and getting us started in what I think will be a super fun thing for the Kishu! Cant wait to see where this takes us.

We are finally home, unpacked, and rested after our 2nd Uncle Earl's Hog Baying event in Louisiana. A week in the south is EXACTLY what we needed.

Enkai competed in both the one-dog and the two-dog events. We were up against some of the best dogs around, but this is only the beginning for us and we're seeing progress with every event. Although we didnt score, there was a huge improvement in his baying and overall enthusiasm in being there. For the two-dog we ran with a gyp that he met about 2 mins before entering the pen. Pen side he wasnt thrilled with her, but once he saw the hog his focus shifted and ran like it was no big deal. That ability to be neutral for work is huge.

The Kishu Ken is a multi-sensory hunting hound. Although Enkai comes from generations of show lines, his instinct to bay and hunt is still very much present. My goal for our kennel has always been to preserve the nature and essence of the breed, and therefore their working aspects as well. We have such a long way to go, but I know we can do it with the right dogs and the right training.

I want to give a huge shout out to the hog baying community here in the US. You are all truly amazing and so welcoming. This is an uphill battle for us in Kishu, but you are making it so we want to keep coming back and trying to reach our goals.
