Same!

Texas people. If you are having training this weekend, (which I know many are) please be aware of the heat. I mean, seriously, I don’t work my dogs generally when it’s over 90. So if it’s going to be 90 by 10 am, please be considerate of your dogs well being. Even a little “3 minute session” will heat stroke a dog out. I know y’all use the little baby pools and cooling pads and stuff, but then put them back in the vehicle. Wet. None of that matters (even though you think it does) Actually, putting them in a baby pool and back in the crate makes it worse. Where they just bake. For me, there is no real reason to even train in July and August, and even sometimes September, unless it’s like at 6 am. Even at 9 pm it can still be well over 95 degrees. It’s just not worth it to harm my dog in the name of dog sport. Think wisely

Free Tip Friday
After creating a strike in your muzzle and the clarity and understanding is there.
Cap the aggression with obedience to build a strong, clear strike and fight in the muzzle.

One of the ways I do this is on a back tie or table. I use a slip in the front with the loop going down, so I have a form of tactile pressure on the dog to stay in the behavior I want (In this case, a down).

After I get the behavior I want, the decoy may sneak up as we did in the building of the muzzle. But this time I’m using the front line with a little pressure and reinforcing my down command as the decoy is coming forward. When I start hearing that growl(not barking!) I know I have him in the mindset I want! I then release him by giving his bite command. This builds up, as you can see, to make a very powerful and intense fight in the muzzle.
