When Draco suffered a painful tail injury that required surgery, her family wasn’t sure how they would manage the cost of the care she needed.

Helping Families Access the Care They Need

When a pet faces a veterinary emergency, families shouldn't have to face it alone.

That's why Sage Compassion for Animals works alongside more than 60 veterinary partners across the Bay Area to help qualifying families access the urgent care their pets need.

Our veterinary partners provide the expertise and lifesaving treatment. Sage Compassion for Animals helps families overcome financial barriers that might otherwise prevent their pets from receiving that care.

Together, we're part of a growing movement to address the access to veterinary care crisis, a crisis that leaves too many families delaying or going without needed care because of cost.

These partnerships mean more than providing funding. They mean veterinary teams and Sage working together to support families through some of their most stressful and emotional moments.

🐾 “Princess has been such a beautiful source of affection, love, and companionship in my life.”

Princess was just eight weeks old when she found her way into her mom’s life after being abandoned. Three years later, she had become so much more than a pet. She was her constant companion, a source of comfort, and, as her mom shared, someone who taught her “the steadiness of being with someone, receiving love, giving love, and not being alone.”

Then Princess suddenly became very sick.

After vomiting repeatedly, refusing food, and barely drinking, Princess needed urgent veterinary care. Her mom feared she had swallowed something as small as a hair tie or rubber band, but without surgery, Princess might not survive.

At the same time, the unexpected cost of her emergency care felt overwhelming.

Through Sage Compassion for Animals, and thanks to compassionate supporters, Princess received the treatment she needed and made it home to the person who loves her most.

“It is still unfathomable to me that if I had not had support, she might not be here,” her mom shared. “I also owe you my gratitude for helping preserve my own sense of hope at a very fragile time.”

Today, Princess is recovering and back home with her family.

Her story is a reminder that when we help a pet, we help the person who loves them, too giving families hope when they need it most.

🐾 "I often say I have two hearts when it comes to Kyle."

Long before Kyle came home, Mars dreamed of finding a service dog who could help them navigate life while living with chronic health conditions. After two unsuccessful attempts, hope was beginning to fade.

Then came the email: "We have a dog for you."

Kyle became so much more than a service dog. He retrieved medications, opened doors, helped with balance, and stayed close through painful migraines. More than anything, he gave his person the confidence and independence to experience life again.

Then Kyle was diagnosed with cancer.

Surgery offered an excellent chance for a cure, but the cost was beyond what his family could manage alone. Through Sage Compassion for Animals' Specialty Surgical Grant, and thanks to compassionate supporters, Kyle received the surgery he needed.

Just six weeks later, he was cancer-free.

"Kyle has his future back," Mars shared. "And so do I."

Kyle's story is a reminder of what happens when neighbors help neighbors. Together, we can help ensure Bay Area families don't have to face unexpected veterinary emergencies alone.
