New residents! Help me welcome Matilda and her three teeny tiny kittens to Maeve’s House. They came from a colony at Centerburg Pointe nursing home. The staff there has been feeding and providing shelter for the cats for years until a new administrator was hired. He boarded up the bottom of the shed where the cats would take cover from the elements, threw away the shelter I provided them and will not allow staff to feed them. Cruel and shameful, isn’t it? Matilda gave birth to four babies but tragically, one passed. This is not unusual when kittens are born outside and it doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking.
This family’s first stop was Shady Owl Ranch where Matilda was able to decompress and begin to enjoy the comforts of inside living, the flow of constant food and fresh water and the feeling of safety for the first time in her life. When Shady Owl Ranch and I were reached out to (along with Rural Ohio Cats & Kittens and From Campus to Catwalk) about a pair of bonded mothers who each had a litter of kittens, the four of us brainstormed on how to make room, get the bonded pair and do some switch-a-roos.
Now I get the pleasure of loving Matilda and watching her babies discover movement, play and all the comes along with growing up until they are all ready for their forever homes.
Matilda is very sweet and gentle. She loves being pet, making biscuits, treats, cat gogurts and cuddling her kittens.
