An Update on Saiman ❤️ with Smokey Mountain Poodles and Sheepadoodles
Today we received answers regarding little Saiman. After a veterinary evaluation, he has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus and is also believed to be blind.
I want to be transparent with our puppy families and followers. Sharing difficult news like this isn’t always easy, but I believe honesty and education are important. Not every outcome in breeding is perfect, and sometimes congenital conditions occur despite health testing, careful planning, and the best efforts of everyone involved. This is our first puppy to ever have an issue so we are navigating best we can along side our vet.
Saiman’s diagnosis does not change how loved he is, and while this isn’t the update we had hoped for, I feel it’s important to share both the joys and the challenges that can come with raising and breeding dogs. My commitment has always been to put my dogs and puppies first, and that remains true for Saiman as we move forward.
Hydrocephalus is a condition where fluid builds up within the brain, causing increased pressure that can affect development, vision, coordination, growth, and overall neurological function. In puppies, signs can include a dome-shaped head, an enlarged soft spot, difficulty learning, vision problems, and delayed development.
Unfortunately, congenital conditions like hydrocephalus can occur even when breeders carefully select breeding dogs, perform health testing, and do everything possible to produce healthy puppies. Our vet believes genetics and parents are not the concern in this case, hydrocephalus can just occur spontaneously and is not always predictable or preventable.
For those who have followed Saiman’s journey, you know he has been a little fighter from the very beginning. We are working closely with our veterinarian to determine what is in his best interest and to ensure he receives the care and support he needs.
We appreciate the kindness, prayers, and positive thoughts as we navigate this diagnosis. Right now, our focus is simply on giving Saiman the best quality of life possible and taking things one day at a time. ❤️
Last but not least if you find yourself wanting to say something negative please just keep it to yourself and unfollow us. This situation is emotional and stressful and we don’t needed added negativity. I won’t be nice if poor choice of comments are posted.
