🎆Friendly Fourth of July Fireworks reminders🎇

🆘Make sure your pet is wearing a properly fitted collar with a name tag including their name and your updated phone number. (I also like GPS collars or AirTags as an extra safety measure!)

☀️During the day:

🎾Play fetch
🦮Take extra/long walks
😴Make sure they are pretty tired out…
I also feed them earlier in the day, and take them out before fireworks start, so they can comfortably do their business and not get freaked out. 💩😅

🧨During the show:

🥰I like to practice crating my pup during the fireworks. (Make the crate a positive and cozy space!)

🎧Sound machines help drown out the fireworks noises outside!

😌Some people like to give their dogs CBD or calming treats.

You know it’s starting to get hot outside when you just melt onto the cold floor! (I won’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to do this, but I am a bit jealous! 😂)⁣ This was only 2 minutes into morning training!

This is why a lot of training is done indoors this time of year, in stores, and anywhere you can bring a dog inside. Lowe’s is a great place to train a dog, but training also a great excuse get some extra plants! ⁣

I had to say goodbye to my best friend recently! ⁣
⁣
We had our last car ride. Our last couch snuggles. Our last sunrise. Our last night. (I wouldn’t trade those snuggles for the world.) Our last sunset walk. (He was pretty wobbly, but he mostly kept pace.)⁣
⁣
I owe everything to him. My business. My relationships. My home. My babies. My life. Everything. ⁣
⁣
I taught him basic obedience and service dog tasks. I taught him how to problem solve and improvise, and that dropping the ChuckIt ball earns him another throw. He taught me to slow down and enjoy life. To enthusiastically bark at every cow. To not mind the mud and furballs and noseprints. To keep going. And he gave me a reason to. We lived and traveled across more states and places and oceans and mountains than most people.⁣
⁣
Saying goodbye to him is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I am lucky to feel this way because I had the absolute HONOR and privilege of loving Yukon. The sweetest, kindest, gentlest dog. A little afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks and nail trims. But always willing to try if I asked him to. And always - always - there for me. ⁣
⁣
And then was my turn to be there for him, for the very last time. ⁣
⁣
I held him and pet him as he licked the tears from my face, like he’s done so many times before, then laid his head down, his panting slowed down, and began to rest peacefully. I whispered into his giant rabbit ears how much I loved him and what a good boy he was. He lost consciousness. I took his collar off so he could be free. Choking and sobbing, I buried my face in his fur as the vet injected him. His heart stopped. His breath stopped. His pain stopped.⁣
⁣
And then, just like that, he was gone. ⁣
⁣
Every white fur is a trigger reminding me who I’ve lost. Of how close I’ve been to death myself. Of how much I owe to this giant white German Shepherd that accidentally fell into my lap and changed my life all those many years ago. ⁣
⁣
I am. For the love of a dog. ⁣
⁣
Rest In Peace, Yukon.⁣
My Best Friend. ⁣
⁣
I miss you terribly, and I am so thankful for you.

He’s incredibly smart and loves to work! Small dogs are just as trainable as the big dogs!!⁣
⁣
I hear it all the time, “My little dog can’t do that! He doesn’t listen! She barks at people and dogs! He won’t come when called!” 😖 But look at puppy! He is a perfect example of little dogs being able to listen. People often think little dogs aren’t trainable (or worth the effort to train), so they just live with the bad behaviors, like barking at people and dogs, pulling on leash, etc, and don’t think their little dog will do obedience for them. This isn’t true! So many little dogs love to work, just like the big dogs 😎⁣

It’s important to start your puppy or young dog off on the right paw! 🐾 Let us help you instill the proper foundations, not just in home, but out and about. It’s important for dogs to listen at home when things are going on, cooking dinner, knocks at the door, kids are running around. It’s also important that dogs listen in public, at the store, maybe at a restaurant, or exploring with you. We want our dogs to be confident when confronted with strange things, but still listen to us at all times. ⁣

Look good, feel good! 😊 ⁣Some times this is what my morning or evenings look like. Brushing the dogs. Building a bond with them! ⁣

Every dog that does a Board and Train with me gets a bath. 🛁 Additionally, I work on trimming their nails 💅 , make sure they’re comfortable with brushing 🪮, ear cleaning 🙉, face-fold wiping 🧼, etc. I take pride in caring for the dogs that are with me. 🤩🫧⁣

Husbandry is extremely important. With every dog I get in, I make sure I am able to touch their ears, feet, tail, around their eyes, nose, mouth. You need to be able to handle these areas as if they were at a vet, or if something was wrong and you need to check them. It’s much better to desensitize them to this sort of handling early, (and when they’re in a fun, controlled environment, not in pain, than it would be to try to do it for the first time when something was seriously wrong).⁣

For being so young, she is pretty smart 🤓 and now she can walk with her small humans! When she first came to me, she did not like her crate and would bark, she would playfully nip at people, she wouldn’t sit still, and she liked to pull on the leash! ⁣But with consistency, structure, and boundaries, she’s maturing nicely with her family!

It’s important to start your puppy or young dog off on the right paw! 🐾 Let us help you instill the proper foundations, not just in home, but out and about. It’s important for dogs to listen at home when things are going on, cooking dinner, knocks at the door, kids are running around. It’s also important that dogs listen in public, at the store, maybe at a restaurant, or exploring with you. We want our dogs to be confident when confronted with strange things, but still listen to us at all times. ⁣

This weekend is for reflecting, for grieving, for honoring. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some incredible dogs and handlers who have given so much to this country. If you’ve read my bio on the website, it mentions working with retired working dogs. The stories I’ve heard from their handlers are INCREDIBLE, and then seeing grown military men cry when dropping off their canine partners is heartbreaking. The bonds our service members form with each other is unfathomable for most civilians. I cannot imagine how Memorial Day must be for our men and women in uniform. It truly is the least we can do to reflect on the sacrifices men, women, and K9s have made for you and I and our freedoms, and honor those lives lost in the way we chose to live our lives now.
