🐾💔 We Need Your Help 💔🐾

This week has been… a lot.

We’ve been doing everything we can to meet each animal where they are—moving slowly, giving space, building trust. Some come in scared, unsure, and just need time and patience to feel safe again. And we give them that. Every single time.

But while we’re doing that… the needs don’t stop coming.
In true spring fashion, Inky—one of our new intakes—gave birth to four precious kittens this morning.

Tiny, fragile lives now depending on us for everything.
And that’s not all.

Just this weekend, five 3-week-old kittens were brought to us in critical condition. Our staff jumped into action immediately—CPR, stimulation, warming, bottle feeding… doing everything possible to save them.

💔 Despite our best efforts, we lost three of them overnight.

And as we’re still processing that loss… we’ve now been asked to take in two separate litters—and we are making room as we speak.

These are the moments that stay with us. The ones that don’t get easier.

Right now, we are:
• Short staffed
• Working long, exhausting hours
• Taking in more animals than we have space for...

And kitten season is just beginning.

We are quickly becoming overwhelmed, and we cannot do this alone.

✨ We are urgently asking for help:
🐾 Donations – Medical care, formula, supplies, and emergency needs add up fast
🐾 Kitten supplies – KMR, bottles, heating pads, soft blankets
🐾 Fosters – Especially for mamas with babies or bottle babies and dogs who need a safe place to land.
🐾 Volunteers – Help with cleaning, feeding, and socializing
Every dollar, every share, every helping hand makes a difference between life and loss.

We will keep showing up for them. We will keep fighting for every tiny life that comes through our doors.
But we need our community beside us now more than ever. ❤️

💙 A HUGE Thank You to Our Friends at Williams! 💙

We are beyond grateful to the incredible team from Williams who spent part of their Volunteer Week with us here at True Friends!

It was such a pleasure to welcome back Tammy Bonnice, who put together an amazing crew of animal-savvy individuals that weren’t one bit phased by the extra excitement, hair, slobber… and even the p**p that comes along with loving shelter dogs.... And trust us—that says a lot! 😄🐾

From the moment they arrived, it was clear they were here to make a difference—and they absolutely did.

Our dogs had the BEST day soaking up the sunshine, stretching their legs, and most importantly… getting showered with love, attention, and companionship. Days like this truly mean everything to them.

Not only did they spend time with our animals, but they also rolled up their sleeves and got to work—painting our old picnic table and helping organize our blanket stash.

These acts may seem small, but they make a huge impact for our staff.

We are so lucky to have a company like Williams in our community. They are always finding ways to give back, and it never goes unnoticed.

Something tells us this won’t be the last time we see these new friends—and we sure hope it isn’t!

❄️ Meet Blizzard! ❄️

Blizzard is a 6-month-old kitten who has already spent most of his young life waiting for a home. He and his brother Frost came to us at just 7 weeks old, along with their mom (who has since been adopted) and their sister Flurry—who is still waiting, just like them.

These boys didn’t come from an easy start… they were found living in a gopher hole, learning to survive before they ever got the chance to just be kittens.

Blizzard has come a long way since those early days. Once a spicy little guy, he’s now discovering just how good the indoor life can be. He’s the more outgoing of the two—a little vocal, full of personality, and known for gently chewing on your fingers (his unique way of saying “I love you”). 💙

He’s still learning to fully trust, but every day you see more curiosity, more confidence, and more of the sweet kitten he’s meant to be.

Blizzard is scheduled to be neutered and is more than ready for the next chapter of his life—a real home.

💙 He’s waited long enough.
💙 Now he just needs someone to believe in him.

• Clean and sanitize kennels, cages & common areas
• Feed and care for dogs and cats
• Assist with exercise, enrichment & handling
• Monitor health and behavior
• Help with laundry, dishes & daily upkeep
• Support visitors, adoptions & events

🐾 What We’re Looking For:
• Reliable, punctual & team-oriented
• Comfortable with animals of all sizes & temperaments
• Able to handle physical work (lifting, bending, standing)
• Calm, patient & compassionate
• Animal care experience is required

💼 Position Details:
• Part-time / Full-time (includes weekends & holidays)
• Starting at $13.50/hour

🎂✨ Another Birthday in the Shelter… Let’s Make the Next One Different for Porsha ✨🎂

Porsha has now celebrated her 8th birthday here at the shelter… and next month, she’ll be 8½ years old. Nearly 5 years of her life spent waiting. Watching. Hoping. 💔

Porsha’s story is one of heartbreak and resilience. She was found as a stray, running down the highway with her puppies tied to her leg in a crate…
And somehow, despite everything she’s been through, she is still full of love.

At 75 pounds, this beautiful American Bully mix is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and fully housebroken. She walks beautifully on a leash, is always happy to sit beside you and “people watch” (and quietly judge 😅), and still enjoys the simple things—sunshine, fresh air, and sniffing out the snacks in any room.

Because of her past, Porsha does have some resource guarding and will need a home experienced and comfortable with that. She would do best as your one and only—no cats, small dogs, or young children—where she can feel safe and truly settle in.

Her adoption fee is fully sponsored—because more than anything, we just want her to finally have a home.

🐾✈️ From Louisiana to Love… Congratulations Francis ❤️

Here at True Friends, located in the heart of Montrose, PA, we are the only shelter serving both Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties. That means when a homeless dog in our community is in desperate need…. We are ALWAYS there.

But thanks to YOU—and the incredible support we receive—we’re sometimes able to do even more. When space allows, we reach beyond our area to help dogs and shelters in urgent situations, including neighboring counties as well as across the country through our partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation.

This amazing team helps make rescue dreams come true—transporting fully vetted, dog-friendly, family-ready dogs from overcrowded, high-kill shelters… straight to safety.

And that’s where Francis comes in.

When one of our staff members saw his face and read his story, she couldn’t stop thinking about this sweet, old soul. So this senior gentleman took a life-changing flight from New Orleans, Louisiana to Binghamton, NY… not knowing what was waiting for him on the other side. Our True Friends team, however, was waiting—anxious to comfort him after a long journey.

What happened next is why we do this.

Francis was adopted almost immediately by a family who has given him a life most dogs never even get the chance to dream about. A place where when he looks out over the long horizon, he might think he’s literally in heaven. A furry new best friend who adores him. And a family that will love him forever, unconditionally.

And the story doesn’t end there…

That same family made an incredibly generous donation back to True Friends—so we can continue saving more lives just like Francis.

This is what rescue looks like.

🌸 Meet MaeBelle 🌸

IN FOSTER HOME

This sweet, stunning girl is MaeBelle… and she needs your help.

At just under 7 months old, MaeBelle has only ever known the comfort of a home—until now. Due to circumstances beyond her control, she was surrendered, and the shelter environment is already taking a toll on her.

MaeBelle is incredibly timid. The noise, the chaos, the constant movement—it’s overwhelming for a puppy who should be learning the world isn’t so scary. Instead of blossoming, she’s beginning to shut down.

🐾 Already around 60 lbs (and still growing!)

🐾 Scheduled to be spayed

MaeBelle doesn’t need perfection—she needs patience, understanding, and the right home.

She will do best with a breed-savvy owner familiar with large guardian-type dogs and someone willing to give her the time she needs to build trust at her own pace.

She needs a home where she can decompress, feel safe, and finally learn how to just be a puppy.

A calm environment, gentle guidance, and a patient heart will make all the difference for this girl. Once she feels safe, we know there’s a loving, loyal companion waiting to shine through.

Willow ❣️

Some dogs carry their story in their eyes… and Willow is one of them.

Willow came to us with her sister Fawn after being removed by the dog warden. She was in rough shape, but even then, she was full of love, hope, and heart.

This beautiful foxhound mix is around 5 years old, and she is so ready for a family of her own. Willow is sweet, affectionate, playful, and full of life. She lights up when she sees her favorite people, gets time with her sister, or has the chance to run and play in the yard.

Willow can be rambunctious. She is strong on leash and still has some puppy-like tendencies—but that does not make her a bad dog. It makes her a dog who needs structure, patience, and someone willing to help her reach her full potential.

She would do best with a breed-savvy home that understands hounds and their big personalities. Willow has done well with kids, though she sometimes forgets her size. She likes other dogs, but she has shown some resource guarding in a home, so structure, management, and proper introductions will be important. She has also done well with cats, but she may chase them from time to time—because, well… she’s still a hound. ❤️

Willow is not broken.
She is not “too much.”
She is a sweet girl who has been waiting for someone to see past the shelter stress and into the loyal, loving dog she truly is.

All she needs is the right person to give her a chance.

Sometimes… it really is love at first post. ❤️🐾

No sooner did we share Spencer on National Lost Dog Day than his forever family found him—and the rest is history.

From the moment they met him, they just knew.
He was theirs… and they were his. ❤️

This lucky boy hit the absolute jackpot with his new parents, and we couldn’t be happier for him. From wandering without a place to call home to being completely loved and spoiled… that’s the ending we dream of every time.

Spencer will never know what it means to be a stray again. ❣️

Happy life, sweet boy—you deserve every second of it. 🐾💕

At just 2 years old, Rambo is the definition of a gentle giant. Weighing in around 85 pounds, he may look like a big, tough guy—but don’t let that fool you… this handsome heartthrob is all softness where it counts.

Rambo is completely housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, and gets along well with other dogs. But more than anything, he loves his people.
