🌟Vet visits are a struggle, even for well trained dogs. Nothing good ever happens at the vet clinic and dogs quickly make that association. Providing as much support as possible will make it less stressful.

🔸Setting Joe up for success! When Joe gets adopted his new family should have the ability to check sensitive areas around his body!

♦️It is important to be able to touch your dog in sensitive areas (such as the paws, ears, mouth, and tail) primarily for health and safety reasons, including the ability to perform necessary medical treatments, veterinary examinations, and grooming without stress or struggle!

🔹Examining your dog routinely for changes in smell, color, shape, etc will prevent issues from developing into a serious problem.

🔸Joe has been in the shelter for over a year. This creates some tension between dogs. Especially being found as a stray dog, he has created some uncertainty toward strange animals.
♦️As you can see here, Joe is not aggressive he just needs time to understand what it means to co-exist around other dogs.

🏵️Joe is becoming a very affectionate boy! Being in the shelter for over a year has hardened him. Training has brought out his full potential, as well as his ability to recognize the surge of oxytocin. A feel-good hormone that he has lacked for so long. 🫶

🔸Counter conditioning: using a high value reward to change the dog’s perception of something or a specific event. Could be an object, a person, an area, brushing teeth, trimming nails, grooming etc
