I advocate for all of our puppies to delay spay/neuter. It is hard to break the old mindset of many but research is repeatedly showing delayed altering has so many advantages.

✂️🥜🐶 WHAT IF WHEN YOU SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR DOG MATTERS JUST AS MUCH AS WHETHER YOU DO IT?

Preventing unwanted litters matters. But is it time to rethink HOW we sterilize dogs? Hormone-sparing procedures, including hysterectomy and vasectomy, can prevent reproduction while preserving natural s*x hormones.

🔬 NEW 2026 PEER-REVIEWED RESEARCH

Over 10 years, researchers reviewed records from 56,254 veterinary patients, including 313 dogs with mast cell tumors and 638 tumor-free comparison dogs. The study was accepted for publication in The Veterinary Journal.

🤯 1. TIMING MATTERS!

Dogs spayed or neutered before age 2 had 343% higher odds of a mast cell tumor diagnosis compared with intact dogs. Dogs sterilized after age 2 showed no statistically significant increase.

🐕 2. SIZE MATTERS!

Compared with small dogs, medium dogs had 2.6 times the odds and large dogs 5.2 times the odds.

⚖️ 3. WEIGHT MATTERS!

Overweight dogs had 80% higher odds than dogs at an ideal weight.

🧬 4. BREED MATTERS!

Compared with mixed-breed dogs, American Pit Bull Terriers had 7.5 times the odds and Boxers 3.9 times. Some breed groups were small.

❤️ 5. WHAT ABOUT SURVIVAL?

Neutering status wasn’t significantly associated with survival after surgery. Tumor grade and size were more important predictors.

🔬 WHY MIGHT HORMONES MATTER?

S*x hormones influence immune function and development. Researchers propose that early hormone removal and changes in luteinizing hormone (LH) may play a role, but this remains unproven.

Preventing unwanted litters doesn’t always mean removing hormone-producing organs. It’s time for individualized conversations with veterinarians about WHEN and HOW we sterilize dogs.

Research shows that feeding dogs🐶 blueberries🫐 as treats can support healthier aging by helping reduce oxidative stress, a key driver of cellular damage over time. Blueberries are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, compounds linked to improved antioxidant status, brain health, and reduced inflammation in both animal and canine studies. In sled dog and feeding trials, blueberry supplementation🫐 has been shown to increase antioxidant capacity, helping protect cells from damage associated with exercise and aging. Emerging research also suggests these compounds may help defend DNA🧬 from oxidative stress, supporting overall cellular resilience. Interestingly, studies comparing fresh and frozen❄️ blueberries have found that freezing preserves these antioxidants and may even increase their measured availability. This happens because ice crystal formation breaks down cell walls, making anthocyanins easier to release when consumed. Combined with the fact that frozen berries are typically harvested at peak ripeness, they can deliver antioxidant levels equal to or even higher than fresh store-bought berries. Together, the evidence suggests blueberries, especially when fed regularly, are a simple, functional addition that may help support your dog’s long-term health and aging process.

Start with ¼ to ½ tsp per 10lbs of body weight a day.

Missing this guy today and realized I didn’t post his go home day. Mr Blue….now Copper, went to an amazing family in Demotte. He has a whole bunch of grandkids to play and grow with now and lots of long walks to enjoy. He definitely has the best personality and full of goofy doodle fun. I miss his sploot and silly hops but man, I couldn’t have asked for a better family to be his forever. Copper, you have such a big heart and so full of life! Keep spreading the joy, buddy!!! 💙🐾💙.

Mr Red, now known as Sullivan or Sully, went to his new furever family in Westfield. He is going to have all the sticks his little heart desires!! Sully is such a chill, loving guy. Our house felt quite different after he went home. I can’t believe I honestly miss cleaning my yard of all the cornstalks he would bring from the fields!!! Be the good boy I know you are, buddy!!!! ❤️🐾❤️

Mr Maroon went to his furever family a few weeks ago. We are so excited for the Bridge Family to add a furbaby to the mix. Even better, Mr. Maroon (now Murphy) will be in Royal Center and we will be able to have puppy visits!!! Enjoy those puppy snuggles Deb & Harry….you have a cute and sweet little guy that is all yours now!!! Absolutely cannot wait to watch him grow 🐾

Last week Mr Green found his family and it is a match made in heaven!!! I love that the kids match his energy. They are going to have so much fun making memories together. I can’t wait to see him grow and luckily he is close enough we will be able to see him! Go be the good boy Ainsley taught you to be, buddy-boy!!! 💚💚

Look at this girl! This is Miss Purple!, who will hopefully be a future mama for us. We are actively looking to place her in a Guardian home. If you live within an hour of me and are interested in hearing whwt a Guardian is, please reach out to me! If approved, you would be getting an AMAZING pup from us. This allows us to add to our Faithfully Yours Doodle program but allows the dog to have her own family (except for when she has a litter of puppies until she weans them).
