Bugsy saw the eye specialist today.

He is completely blind and has 5 different genetic issues just in his eyes.
I’m sorry I don’t remember all the names of what is going on. I don’t have the report yet.
His pupils are very low in his eyes
The right pupil doesn’t move at all
He has cataracts
There is one small area on the left side that had a small response to light.
There is no fixing these problems.

The big question we are faced with is does Bugsy have a good quality of life.
3 different vets have said No.
I watch him circle all day in his pen, I see the fear of hearing other dogs, he cowers when you approach him, he freezes when you leash him.
We have not made any progress engaging with him. The spinning in circles has become his normal.

This post is to see if there is anyone out there that has a quiet home, no other pets that might want to try and work with him. This is the only other option we have.

The rescue is too over stimulating for him.

04/23/26 Update: Finn has been found and is home safe!

UPDATE 4/22/26
Finn is still missing and has most recently been seen in the Sunderland area. Please continue to keep an eye out for him and check any outdoor cameras as well as potential hiding places in your yard, such as outbuildings, barns, under decks, etc, for any signs of him. Call 413-824-4683 with sightings or any information. Do not chase!

Farley is missing from the Berkshire East Ski area. He is a neutered male. He should be wearing a collar with the owners phone number. He may have ventured towards Hawley or Charlemont. If seen please call the owner at 413-768-0373 or our Animal Control Dept. at 413-774-7340.

Do you have a plastic cat carrier in good, working condition that’s not in use? Please consider donating it to Dakin!

We move LOTS of cats to and from foster homes and have a BIG need for plastic carriers to transport them safely. We can accept hard plastic carriers only, with a working door. We can also take carriers that are missing screws/fasteners.

Donations are warmly welcomed daily from 9am - 4pm at 171 Union St, Springfield, outside our main doors.
