BEHAVIOR:
Behavior Assessment
KNOWN HISTORY: The client reported they found Trucker three weeks ago, but could not keep him due to apartment pet policy.
Previously lived with: 1 Adult
Behavior toward strangers: He is reported to warm up before two weeks. Once warmed up he is curious, plays gently, friendly and outgoing with strangers.
Behavior toward children: No experience
Behavior toward cats: No experience
Behavior toward dogs: No experience
Bite or Scratch history: None
Energy level/descriptors: Medium
Other notes: He is an indoor cat who is reported to be friendly and enjoys being a lap cat. He plays gently and likes to chance/pounce on toys. Previous owner's favorite thing is when he is on their lap Trucker will gently paw at his face for pets. He was previously on a dry food diet with no specific brand. He previously had access to one uncovered litter box with unscented litter located in the bathroom.
Upon intake, he was fearful but calm while in the carrier and observant of staffs' movements. He allowed to be pet, scanned for M/C, and an ACC collar was placed.
EVALUATION:
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet Affectionate Lap Cat Timid Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments: Trucker has been through several major transitions lately and may need extra time to adjust to his new home. Adopters should be prepared to allow him to settle in at his own pace and provide a calm, predictable environment where he has the ability to retreat and decompress as needed.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Upon approach, Trucker is resting on top of his den. He can be heard low-growling for a few moments, then he yawns as the assessor enters, then comes forward to greet them. He has a relaxed body and looks up at them with a calm expression and neutral ears. He gently leans into petting on his head and along his back, gently pushing closer to the assessor and purring softly. He allows a brief pick up with no issue, loose in the hold. Once set back down, he continues to purr and solicit attention. As the kennel door is closed to end the assessment, he again begins low-growling, then crawls back up to his den and lies down.
Trucker appreciates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
Other: Level 2 - 10/01/26
