For over two months, Max the Dalmatian managed to survive on his own. But last night, his long and difficult journey finally came to an end when he was safely rescued.
Max had gone missing in Monticello during the holidays while visiting from Austin, Texas with his family. What started as a few terrifying days quickly turned into weeks of uncertainty.
Sightings became less frequent.
The weather turned colder, harsher.
But the small group searching for him never gave up.
Everything shifted yesterday around 5:35 p.m. A local resident, who had seen Max’s missing posters, decided to check footage from her trail camera. When she spotted a Dalmatian that looked just like him, she immediately reached out to the search team.
Within minutes, a plan was in motion. Volunteers set up a humane trap, gathered supplies, and Emily Carter and her husband prepared to wait through the night.
Another brutal cold front was approaching, and everyone hoped Max would return before it hit.
Just before midnight, that hope turned into reality.
After more than 65 days missing — enduring freezing temperatures, going weeks without confirmed sightings, and covering over eight miles — Max finally walked into the trap.
He was safe at last.
Today, Max is resting in a warm place, slowly recovering from everything he’s been through. He’s being cared for by Rachel Monroe, a local groomer and rescuer who stepped in right away to help. She’s even offered to personally drive him all the way back to Texas so his elderly owners don’t have to make that long trip again.
This rescue happened because people stayed alert, shared his story, and took action. One observant neighbor’s call, combined with Emily Carter’s determination and refusal to give up, made all the difference.
After 65 long days alone, Max is finally safe — and soon, this brave Dalmatian will be heading home where he belongs.
