Today, SCA received a call from Janelle about two kittens abandoned kittens in need.

Janelle not only helped establish SCA, but has been a dedicated, long-term foster and an important part of our rescue family. Just this past fall, she nursed kittens back to health.

So, of course, we wanted to say yes.

But before we could, we had to sit down and seriously look at our finances. Our funds are extremely limited, and our current medical expenses (attached below) are already adding up.

We receive several requests for help every single day. If we could afford to help them all, we would. Unfortunately, there are times we have to make heartbreaking decisions based solely on finances — and that is one of the hardest parts of rescue.

Today, we decided to say yes to these two little lives. We know it will be costly, but we also know they’re worth it.

Every donation helps give us the ability to keep saying “yes.”

Yesterday we recieved a call no rescue wants to hear, a recently adopted Ridglan beagle had gotten loose. To make matters worse, it happened in a small rural town and after a few hours of exploring she was hunkered down in a thick marsh near a busy county highway.

As soon as we got word, we were on our way and a search and rescue agency was deployed. Within an hour of the call Backwoods Drone Search & Rescue was out with their thermal drone.

We knew her exact location thanks to her fi collar, once we had eyes on her we realized she was stuck in the marsh. Without hesitation Megan, our rescues founder and president went in after Lola. "Not-so-Lady Lola" was deep in a thick marsh field, honestly were still not sure how her tiny self made it there. Megan had only the dim light from her phone but was basically moving blind through thick mucky water, in some areas up to her waist, pushing past logs, branches and other debris. Relying only on verbal instructions from Backwoods Drone Rescue and board member, Katie, who were stationed near by and watching the live drone footage from up above. In the darkness, Megan made her way towards Lola, little by little until finally...she had her!

Those of you who personally know Megan won't be surprised by her latest dog rescuing adventure. Megan's passion for helping others is one of her greatest qualities and the truth is we need more "Megan's" in the world of rescue. We need more rescues to show this level of commitment to the dogs they take in, even after adoption. This is exactly why one of the adoption requirements for our Ridglan beagles was they live within 2 hours of us. When we take a dog into SCA, we are committing to them, the foster family, and future adopting families.

Starting this rescue has been no easy feat, but we are blessed and proud to be led by the most compassionate, caring, and BADASS president this rescue could possibly have 💪🏼

A special thank you to Backwoods drone rescue and Fi , for making this recovery possible. Megan's kind friends who guarded the hwy incase Lola tried darting across, the wonderful residents of Wind Lake who joined the hours long search party into the night. And thank you to Lola's adoptive family who suffered the scare of a lifetime but, did everything to get her back 💛

⭐️Adoption pupdates⭐️

Mylo & Lilli

There is something so special about the bond animals form with one another. They grieve, they love, and sometimes, they find each other at exactly the right time. ❤️

Mylo was adopted from SCA in March 2026 and soon after experienced the loss of a beloved fur sibling. Then came Maple — now Lilli. 🐾💕

After experiencing another heartbreaking loss in the family, Mylo and Lilli found comfort in each other.

Today, these two SCA alumni are inseparable and living their best lives together — playing, loving, and healing side by side. ❤️

Sometimes rescue is about more than saving one animal. Sometimes, they end up saving each other.

This is why second chances matter. 🐾

Rescue never stops, and unfortunately, neither do the bills.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve taken in dogs who desperately needed us—including medical cases that required immediate veterinary care. As a result, our expenses have continued to climb, and we’re feeling the strain.

Right now, our biggest expenses are:
🐾 Veterinary care for recent medical intakes and emergencies
🏡 Boarding costs for dogs waiting on foster homes
🎓 Training for dogs who need a little extra help before they can find their forever families
