Hey everyone, time for a difficult update. First off, thank you to everyone for all of your support you’ve shown Chips over the months. 💚 It’s been 2 months since our last vet visit and update, and unfortunately he’s still not eating. That marks nearly 6 months of not eating and surviving purely off of meds and syringe feeding. So tomorrow we are returning to the vet and considering all options.
It’s been difficult on him, on us, and we have been giving serious consideration to his quality of life. He absolutely hates syringe feeding and has been doing everything in his power to not swallow the food. Most days I end up with more food on my clothes than he gets in his belly. He has yet to show even a shred of interest in real food, and despite his medication helping his to pass the liquid food, it seems he still has a blockage that hasn’t moved after 4 months of meds. Surgery and CT scans are options, but they are risky, expensive, and not a guarantee. We also can’t help but to consider that we don’t know his age, his teeth are in very poor condition, he’s pretty bloated, and we don’t know what else is happening internally besides the sand.
We’ll see what the vet says, but it has been getting harder to believe that he’ll make a full recovery. While he is in decent shape now (other than frequent random black bearding and head bobbing), we also don’t want to cut off the meds and syringe feeding only to see him take a nose dive. While we’d usually ask for donations right about now, today all we want to do is give you this update to keep you all in the loop. We truly appreciate all of your support and want to do what’s best for Chips. 💚💚💚
