🌧️ Rainy days hit a little differently when you have a senior pup.
My girl is feeling extra sleepy and a little achy today, so I’m doing a few simple things to make her as comfortable as possible.
🐾 Keeping water close by: I have multiple water stations around the house so she never has to walk too far for a drink of clean water.
🐾 Nonslip mealtimes: Her bowls are on a nonslip surface so she has good footing while eating.
🐾 Nonslip runners: We have runners in the high traffic areas she walks through to help prevent slipping and falling.
🐾 Making stairs safer: Our stairs have grips added to them, and I use a waist harness to help support her when she needs a little assistance.
🐾 A comfy, supportive bed: A good bed gives those achy joints a cozy place to rest and helps keep pressure off her older body.
🐾 Hands-on checks: I regularly run my hands over her body to check for any new lumps, bumps, swelling, tenderness, or anything that feels different.
🐾 Checking her mouth: I lift her lips and take a quick look at her teeth and gums for obvious changes like heavy tartar, redness, swelling, or anything that doesn’t look right.
🐾 Keeping her warm: On chilly, rainy days, I make sure she has a warm, dry place to rest, away from drafts.
🐾 Letting her sleep: Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply let our senior pets REST.
🐾 Paying attention to the little changes: Mobility, appetite, drinking, bathroom habits, energy, and behavior can all give us clues when something might need a closer look.
Senior pets don’t always need anything fancy. Sometimes it’s just making their environment a little safer, keeping things within reach, and paying attention to the little things.
These are the golden years, and I want to make them as safe, comfortable, and happy as possible. 💜
