Thank you to Michelle from Sprenger USA - Equine for sitting down with us to talk through bit fit and function, and the innovation that goes into Herm Sprenger’s designs.

We’re proud to ride in Herm Sprenger bits at The Frame, and we’re always glad to have the chance to dig a little deeper into the equipment we use every day.

Part one of our three-part conversation is now up on YouTube.

Sale horse Dream On (Westporte/Torrero/Gold Apollo xx) is starting to make a habit of coming home with ribbons, which is generally considered a good habit to have.

Martin and this lovely gelding headed to MDHT for Dream On’s second recognized event, where they finished in the top ten in Open Novice. That makes two recognized events on his record, and two trips home in the ribbons.

He’s continuing to put the pieces together every time he goes out, and we’re enjoying watching him figure out just how much fun this eventing business can be.

Dream On is available for sale through The Frame. We have a feeling his next chapter will be a good one.

You can’t say we aren’t consistent.

Across the program, our horses use the same basic setup: a T3 Matrix pad from Toklat Originals, a Devoucoux saddle, and Herm Sprenger North America, LP safety stirrups.

That consistency is useful when you spend your days working with horses at different stages of their education. We have enough variables to think about already without changing every piece of equipment just for the sake of changing it.

Guess the sale horse…

Did you guess Rainbow Heart? This big OTTB has been winning hearts around The Frame.

If you’re looking for a young Thoroughbred with a whole lot of heart attached, Rainbow Heart might be the big, bay gelding of your dreams.

We’re not saying you shouldn't bring your friends horse shopping at The Frame. We’re just saying you might want to warn them what can happen.

Aubrey came to us over the summer looking for an event horse and took Love Letters (Bourbon Courage/Citidancer) home. Fast forward a little, and we were thrilled to hear that the two of them won their first horse trials together at KDCTA. A pretty good return on a summer spent horse shopping, if you ask us.

Naturally, Aubrey told her friend Saoirse about her experience, and Saoirse decided to come down and meet some horses of her own. Saoirse fell in love, made her decision, and Emilia WBF (Blue Hors Emilio/De Noir) was her's before we even had a chance to get Millie listed online.

Rye already had some miles on the competition clock, but Millie was just getting started. That gave us the chance to do another one of our favorite things: help a young horse figure out her new job. Millie stayed with us for a couple of months while we took her cross-country schooling and got her out to a few horse trials before she headed home to Saoirse.

And now? Both horses live at the same barn. We’d call that a successful shopping trip.

Congratulations to Aubrey and Rye on their win, and to Saoirse and Emilia on the start of their partnership. We’re awfully fond of this particular chain reaction.

One young horse. Five days. One session a day. No more than 45 minutes a session. And a lot of little steps that add up to something much bigger.

Archer joined Joe during our November 2025 Backing Horses With The Frame Master Class, and in five days they covered his introduction to the halter, lunging, and tack, and progressed to carrying a rider and walk-trot work in the small arena.

Starting a young horse isn't about rushing to the first ride. It's about building understanding at each stage so the next step has somewhere solid to begin.

And if you’ve ever wanted to get a closer look at how that process works, this is your preview. Our next Backing Horses With The Frame Master Class runs November 16–20, 2026, with Martin Douzant and Joe DeSantis. It’s a hands-on week for professionals, trainers, breeders, and working students who want to build a better foundation for starting young sport horses.

A lot of our horses are still growing, learning, and making the transition into being a riding horse. That means paying attention to more than just what happens under saddle.

Good nutrition is part of the foundation, and we look at each horse’s needs as we develop their feeding and management program. For additional support with maintaining condition, The Gain Weight from Cox Veterinary Lab is one of the products we rely on.

As horses, like sale horse Victor, move from turnout and early education into more consistent work, keeping an eye on their condition matters. There is plenty to think about when bringing along a young horse; we’d rather not have to start worrying about whether they’re keeping enough weight on, too.

You can watch us start young horses on YouTube. But watching and doing are two rather different things.

Our 2026 November class is coming up!

Backing Horses With The Frame is a week-long, hands-on master class for professionals, trainers, breeders, and working students who want to develop a more systematic approach to starting young sport horses.

Led by Martin and Joe, who have started more than 1,000 young horses between them, the program follows the French system of dix étapes vers la vie—10 steps toward a lifetime of success.

Each day combines morning lectures and discussion with practical sessions working with horses at different stages of their education. With a maximum of four participants, there’s room for individual instruction, questions, and plenty of hands-on experience.

You can certainly learn a lot from our YouTube channel. But it’s rather difficult to climb into the saddle through a screen.

From his first romp in the field to figuring out how to use himself through a jump chute, Frame Sauvage (Frame Nantucket S/Magnific Cimon/Golden Missile xx) is becoming a lovely young sport horse.

He’s still got plenty to learn, and that’s exactly the point at this stage. We’re taking the time to let him develop his balance, strength, and understanding before asking for more. If you’re interested in where Mowgli comes from, you can find more about his pedigree and bloodlines on Iconeq Technologies

Mowgli will be backed this fall, but for anyone looking for a young horse to develop from the ground up, he is still available.

Time for another update on Claire’s horse, Queso.

Since arriving from Finger Lakes last November, Queso has been making the transition from racehorse to sport horse. In our latest YouTube video Martin talks about how far he’s come and what they’re working on next.

Martin also shows us how he introduces a horse to jumping on the line and in-hand, before seeing Queso back under saddle. He’s also beginning to understand contact, another important step in learning how to work with a rider.

There’s a lot that goes into this transition, and it isn’t all about getting over fences. It’s about helping the horse understand each new question before moving on to the next.

Watch the full episode on YouTube to follow Queso’s progress.
