Positive Reinforcement Training

I believe in positive reinforcement training in order to strengthen the bond between companion and human. Positive reinforcement fosters a happy environment and has shown to be the most effective method in behavior modification for companion animals.

Rainy days are the best days for puzzles! Hope everyone is staying dry out there. What did you do to keep your pups occupied this weekend?

Muzzles can be worn for a variety of reasons. Here's and example of a dog learning to wear one. Every dog is different, but most will need a period of desensitization; so make sure the first time you put one on them isn't when they actually need it! Check out https://muzzleupproject.com/ for more information on why dogs wear muzzles and how to muzzle train!

For dogs that pull, I always recommend starting with a "no pull" harness or any harness that attaches in the front. But in more extreme cases, I always go to a gentle leader or head halter. Here's a great example of someone walking their dog on a gentle leader. Check it out!

We've been a little quiet lately, but for the best possible reason -- we welcomed a new baby to the pack!

As we've settled into this new chapter, we've also been doing what we encourage all of our clients to do—making sure our own animals are set up for success. Bringing home a baby is a big adjustment for everyone, including our pets, and we've been intentionally working on calm behaviors, respecting boundaries, and creating positive associations so everyone can feel comfortable, confident, and safe together--Crouton already loves the carseat; and the dogs love the pack walks.

Thank you for your patience and support while we've been away. We're looking forward to getting back to helping pets and their humans build happier, stronger relationships through training.

While we're still working on teaching the human baby some new tricks (like sleeping through the night), please reach out today -- whether you're preparing your dog for a new baby, working through behavior challenges, or just looking to strengthen your bond, we're here to help.

While this may look like a cute video of Sandy and Norman interacting, Norman is actually giving many subtle clues that he's uncomfortable. Can you name some of them? Check back later tonight for the answers!
