Simply the best!!

This is Cayenne who is the spiciest of our Spicy Peppers. Monday when they arrived she was the one who laid down the gauntlet and said “Go ahead try to get me out of this carrier!! I will bite and I bite to maim!!” I believed her too because she bit Courtney on the shoulder badly when she first got them out of the place they were living in so she has my respect!!
The three days we’ve had them the handling of all of them has been slow and cautious and basically me only as we have found that is the best way to do it! Theresa did bathe them on Monday when they came in but not Cayenne because she made it clear that wasn’t on her list of activities for the day.

This is the progress made

Monday Full body armor needed

Tuesday Bite gloves and a towel

Wednesday morning Towel only

Wednesday afternoon Bare handed!!!

I was shocked that she let me not only pick her up bare handed but she allowed me to hold her close and give her lots of love.

Every day she is a little less scared, a little less unsure, a little less confused. One baby step at a time results in huge strides for dogs like these her and the other three as well!! A month or so from now it will be hard to remember just how fearful they were on Monday!!

Attention, Gulf South region: there is no better option for your pets’ emergency and specialty care. Knowing the owners personally and seeing how they care for their patients, clients, and team, I know how special this hospital will be.

I can assure you that when my own pets need specialty or emergency care, Blue Dog will be where I turn. Congratulations to the entire Blue Dog team! 💙🐾

So excited to see this become a reality! Very good friends of mine are opening Blue Dog Veterinary Specialists, and I couldn’t be happier for them and their team. Having another specialty and emergency hospital in our community is such a wonderful thing for our local veterinarians and, most importantly, the pets we all love so much.

Congratulations to the entire Blue Dog team! Wishing you nothing but success. Delta Veterinary Hospital is so excited to welcome you to our veterinary community!

🐾 A little update while Delta Veterinary Hospital gets ready to open!

Starting next week, I’ll be seeing patients at Lakeview Veterinary Hospital during the transition.

I’m incredibly thankful to Dr. Guichard and the entire Lakeview team for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to get back to doing what I love. Their kindness and support means more than I can say.

My schedule:
Tuesday: 9:00–5:30
Wednesday: 1:00–5:30
Friday: 9:00–2:00

Some patients just stick with you. Joseph is one of them.

Several years ago, Joseph was rescued from the streets by Metairie Humane Shelter. His collar had become so deeply embedded in his neck that it left a severe wound requiring surgery and several weeks of specialized bandage changes to finally heal.

But healing his neck was only part of Joseph’s journey.

Joseph was incredibly timid and scared, and one of his biggest challenges was simply learning how to be a dog again. That’s where Kitt came in.

Every day, Kitt would visit Joseph at his kennel. At first, he wasn’t quite sure what to think of her. Slowly, he started coming out of his shell. Before long, he was following her around, playing with her, and learning how to just be a dog. The video is still one of my favorite memories from his recovery.

Today, Joseph is living his best life on a farm, a pretty incredible ending for a dog who had such a difficult start.

Cases like Joseph’s are a reminder of why I love veterinary medicine. Sometimes our job is to heal the wounds we can see. Other times, it’s helping them heal the ones we can’t.

So grateful to Metairie Humane Shelter Humane for giving Joseph his chance, and to Kitt for helping a scared little dog learn how to be a dog.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, along with the first responders and heroes who ran toward danger to help others.

I still have vivid memories of that day 25 years ago and how much our country changed in an instant. My brother-in-law, Vic, and I were in the same graduating class at Brother Martin High School. Not long after 9/11, he went on to serve our country as a United States Marine and deployed overseas.

His story is just one of so many men and women who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

Today, we remember those we lost, honor those who served, and keep their families in our hearts.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸
