๐Ÿดโค๏ธ WE DID IT! Against an incredibly tight deadline, all 66 horses have been placed.

I have said it a few times now, and I still donโ€™t think it has completely sunk in. All ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฒ Latah County horses have been placed.

When the horses were forfeited to Latah County, we jumped in to help knowing what can happen to horses that are not healthy or have had very little handling. If given the chance, we promised we would have them out by the end of the month. We had approximately 14 days.

14 days to work through hundreds of applications and messages, check veterinary references, talk with potential adopters, coordinate placements, and try to make the best decision we could for every individual horse.

It was about finding the right person and the right place for each one.

There were hiccups. It wasnโ€™t perfect. BUT today, I am incredibly relieved to say:

๐Ÿด ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿต have found their new homes
๐Ÿด ๐Ÿฑ are in foster homes receiving continued care
๐Ÿด ๐Ÿฎ are heading into training

Their care doesnโ€™t stop here. All of these horses will need continued veterinary and preventative care. The c**ts will need to be gelded. All will need vaccination boosters, and many will need additional deworming, dental and farrier work, training, rehabilitation, good nutrition, patience, and time to settle into their new lives.

We will continue to help their adopters with some of those needs because finding them a home was a huge milestone, but getting them onto a trailer was never the finish line.

One of the things we have learned since getting these horses into care is that some of the younger horses initially appeared to be yearlings simply because of their small size and lack of development. We now know some are closer to two years old, which raises real concerns about what inadequate nutrition during those critical growing years may have done to their development.

And one very sweet c**t, who has been under veterinary care on and off since June, has now been moved to Washington State University for specialized treatment, bloodwork, and a more in-depth look at what is going on.

He is being treated for two weeping abscesses on his body and, for now, his job is simply to heal while the veterinary team works to get some answers.

If you would like to help us continue supporting their veterinary and medical needs, you can contribute here:

So many people made this possible. Adopters, foster families, volunteers, veterinary teams, the Latah County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Deputy Olmstead, the Idaho Brand Office, John Pearson, Tate Witters, and so many others showed up when these horses needed them.

๐ŸดThirty Five โค๏ธ Adoptions Today

I honestly have no words for what it feels like to watch 35 horses go into loving homes in one day. Work isnโ€™t overโ€ฆโ€ฆ..we have one more day.

We know many of you have been asking for updates about the horses and what is happening with the case. We have seen your comments, messages, and questions.

For some background, on August 7th, the Court entered an order forfeiting all 66 horses to the Latah County Sheriff's Office, giving the Sheriff's Office authority to determine their custody, adoption, sale, or other disposition.

Since then, a tremendous amount of work has gone into preparing these horses to leave for approved homes. Adopters were selected, transportation coordinated, veterinary care arranged, and plans were in place for the horses to begin leaving this week.

Then, just as those plans were being finalized, Gregg Gardner, an associate of defendants Randy and Lona Suomi, came forward claiming an ownership interest in the horses. Gardner filed for an injunction asking the Court to stop the disposition of the horses while his claim is considered.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Thursday Afternoon.

Based on what we have reviewed, there are serious inconsistencies and unanswered questions about the petitioners intention and whether the full and accurate story is being presented. Because this matter is actively before the Court, we are going to let the evidence speak for itself.

What we can say is that the ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ต ๐—–๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ'๐˜€ ๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ and ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ต ๐—–๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ณ'๐˜€ ๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ are putting an incredible amount of work into addressing this latest challenge. Much more is happening behind the scenes than most people will ever see, and we are extremely grateful for their continued commitment to protecting the well-being of these horses.

Most importantly, the horses remain safe and cared for. โค๏ธ

We also know how difficult this uncertainty has been for our approved adopters. Many have prepared their properties, arranged transportation, taken time off work, and planned significant travel. We will continue communicating directly with them as we learn more.

We aren't at the finish line yet, but these horses still have a whole lot of people standing behind them and working hard to make sure their welfare remains at the center of every decision.

We will share more as soon as were are able. ๐Ÿด

I realize that things have settled down from the fires. BUT There is so much work that happens long after the flames are gone. Weโ€™re just really grateful to everyone who helped make this little piece of recovery possible.

A huge thank you to the Cunningham family at Cunningham Pastured Meats for letting us know these donations went to a Jordan Valley gentleman and his neighbors that are rebuilding fence, replacing gates and feeding animals.

๐ŸŒพ Trayce N Stackhouse-Ghislain-for donated hay and panels
๐Ÿ’ช Justin P***o & and his wife for loading hay
๐Ÿฉบ Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine donated medical kits
๐Ÿงฐ Margaret Graban Carrico for fencing wire, homemade chapstick, first aid supplies, AND the trailer to get everything delivered
โค๏ธ Elsie contributed additional first aid supplies
๐Ÿด Horse & Halo donated posts, wire, and gates

๐Ÿ™ Stand with us. ๐Ÿ’ต Please donate. ๐Ÿ“ฒ And Share.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿด 60+ HORSES. ONE MASSIVE RESPONSIBILITY. WE NEED OUR VILLAGE.

Horse & Halo has taken on the responsibility of rehoming 60+ at-risk horses in Latah County, Idaho.

That means vet care, farrier care, feed, transportation, foster support, supplies, and all the little things that come with getting this many horses where they need to go. ๐Ÿด

This is a huge undertaking, and we need you behind us.
