This is what O’Leary should have looked like. This is what he would have looked like if he had been cared for, instead of being forced to survive on the streets, starving and battling severe mange.
Regrettably, O’Leary passed away this morning at the Animal Medical Center of Redlands. His kidneys were shutting down from the severe, prolonged dehydration he endured on the streets. His glucose levels refused to stabilize, and his body was simply too weak to process nutrients. While this is absolutely not the outcome we prayed for, it was a harsh reality we knew he faced.
If there is any comfort to be found, it is that he did not die alone on the streets of Victorville, nor was he just another number euthanized at a crowded shelter. Instead, his final days were spent completely wrapped in comfort, impeccable care, and immense love.
I cannot stress enough what a profoundly sweet boy he was. He was so incredibly grateful to be warm, safe, and to know that his hopeless fight for survival was finally over.
If you are able, please consider donating toward O’Leary’s medical bills and supporting the ongoing mission of Sierra Pacific Furbabies. You can help organizations like Sierra Pacific Furbabies to step up for the ones who need it most by:

My heart has been broken twice this week, but I take solace in knowing that when O’Leary crossed the rainbow bridge, he did so feeling entirely loved. Run free, sweet boy. 🐾💔

An update on the sweet kitty, now named O’Leary:
This morning I dropped him off at where he is now going through intensive care. He not only has severe mange but also Feline HIV, is severely dehydrated and his blood glucose has dropped out. It’s touch and go for the poor boy but they are taking really good care of him doing all they can.
Please send prayers and love his way. He is such a sweet boy and really deserves a happy retirement ❤️‍🩹🍀♥️ If you’d like to donate towards his care, you can do so by sending money directly to the Animal Medical Center of Redlands or donating to The Sweet Life Animal Rescue or Sierra Pacific Furbabies

Sweet old Mac scrappy is such a happy and lucky boy to have found the very bestest hospice parents. With heart failure and bad hips, bad eyes, he won’t let anything stop him. Good on-ya little fella ♥️❣️ We need to cherish every moment we get to spend with them and make their lives better, and they are giving us so much back in return 🥰 2 ½ years ago we saved him from certain euthanasia. He was heart broken, body broken and devastated for being abandoned. Of course he was grumpy and needed adjustment, needed to trust again and find his last stop parents. And find them he did. And now look at this man, he’s just as happy as could be. We love you very much Scrappy♥️♥️♥️

If you’d like to donate towards Scrappy’s care, or Daisy’s spay and dental surgery or Lola’s dental, you find our info in our Profile.

We’ve had a busy couple of days and are getting engaged in our new community (I’m saying “we” as the dogs are always helping even if only as emotional supporters waiting in the car :D)

Her name was Treebark and she was a wild b***o.

Tuesday late afternoon I noticed a donkey with a broken leg, right next to Route 38/ Greenspot Blvd in danger of getting hit by a car while desperately trying to keep up with her family. The only ones I was able to reach was Animal Control and the Sheriff’s. AC initially wanted to come out but then had an emergency, and since it was after hours by now, they decided they’d better come back in the morning when they have more people on duty.
This morning a neighbor saw her and reported her whereabouts, so I went there, befriended her a bit more (she really knew she needed help) and managed to put a rope around her neck and then around her head without any issues. While I was on hold with Animal Control a volunteer with DonkeyLand came out to help. Two independent vets had evaluated her leg and both declared that it was beyond saving, so it was decided to end her suffering and let her cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Thanks to Julie, the Donkeyland volunteer, who came prepared, Treebark had a great last meal with all the goodies that aren’t especially good for donkeys: apples, senior pelleted feed and grass hay. She was loved on until her very last moment when she earned her wings.
RIP sweet Treebark

Again, a big THANK YOU to everyone involved, even if you were “only” routing for her getting saved. Animal Control sent out a crew of 3 great women who were so sweet and patient with our girl, even when she panicked. It truly takes a village.

One thing I’d like to emphasize is applicable to everyone, around the world: When you see people and or animals on/close to/next to the road: SLOW DOWN! It costs you absolutely NOTHING to slow down and keep people as well as animals safe!

It was a long rescue, but worth every minute even if the outcome wasn’t what anyone would hope for. We ended unnecessary suffering simply by caring enough to get help. And it literally didn’t cost us anything but time and a tiny amount of fuel, but the feeling of helping someone (“even if it’s an animal”) cannot be weighed in gold. More people should try it sometime. Choose love not hate. Make love not war. Peace out my donkey lovers
