This is what O’Leary should have looked like. This is what he would have looked like if he had been cared for, instead of being forced to survive on the streets, starving and battling severe mange.
Regrettably, O’Leary passed away this morning at the Animal Medical Center of Redlands. His kidneys were shutting down from the severe, prolonged dehydration he endured on the streets. His glucose levels refused to stabilize, and his body was simply too weak to process nutrients. While this is absolutely not the outcome we prayed for, it was a harsh reality we knew he faced.
If there is any comfort to be found, it is that he did not die alone on the streets of Victorville, nor was he just another number euthanized at a crowded shelter. Instead, his final days were spent completely wrapped in comfort, impeccable care, and immense love.
I cannot stress enough what a profoundly sweet boy he was. He was so incredibly grateful to be warm, safe, and to know that his hopeless fight for survival was finally over.
If you are able, please consider donating toward O’Leary’s medical bills and supporting the ongoing mission of Sierra Pacific Furbabies. You can help organizations like Sierra Pacific Furbabies to step up for the ones who need it most by:
• Calling directly to the Animal Medical Center of Redlands to donate toward his account.
• Giving online via the Sierra Pacific Furbabies website https://www.sierrapacificfurbabies.com/
My heart has been broken twice this week, but I take solace in knowing that when O’Leary crossed the rainbow bridge, he did so feeling entirely loved. Run free, sweet boy. 🐾💔
