Meet Bob Bean. Bob was abandoned in a park. He doesn't have his big boy quack yet. You can tell he was raised by people. He sits in my lap and watches TV. Bob is mine now. To whoever dumped him, you didn't deserve him.

We are all safe here for those who saw national news and were concerned!! It's muddy but we are fine!

If you look up the town of North Greenbush, New York on the Internet, you can search for the name of the supervisor, the police chief, the fire chief… all the people who basically run the town and make things go.

In a very real way though, it’s a lie.

North Greenbush is actually run, not by people, but by a group of geese who take up residence near the corner of routes 4 and 43 and run the show.

It doesn’t matter if it’s rush-hour or someone’s late for an important meeting… When these geese feel like crossing the street, they do it as slowly as they feel like and everyone in town stops, watches and waits patiently for them to get where they need to go.

This is not a new phenomenon.

I lived in this town, not a quarter mile from that intersection for 15 years and I stopped for these geese easily 50 times.

And if you dare lean on the horn, trying to move them along faster… I swear, they often stop and look at you like the crazy queen who rode that dragon in Game of Thrones 🐉

All kidding aside… I love the fact that people respect wildlife and appreciate these geese in my old town.

I think people feel a little kinship, even ownership with these geese that they belong to everyone, and they should be protected and respected… which they most certainly are 🦢

Last night's try for Spicer the Bartlett Goose - 404 Error Goose Not Found. Sunday is usually the worst day for a rescue attempt because lots of people go to the park and feed the birds. They probably spent the day somewhere else and just had not returned for their night nesting. Our teams will continue to try.

It's important to note that our team members are all VOLUNTEERS all have day jobs and it is usually not possible for them to drop everything and run to a site when the goose is spotted. But every spotting gives us a new place to look when we can go out!

I currently can't drive (broken foot, not rescue related just a klutz) and I was a bad girl the night we used the net gun because I was walking too far without my crutches, and I .... kind of ran? Yeah, not smart or responsible I know, so I'm resigned to stay in the truck :)

Rescue life with a broken foot really is all about the cuddles.

Our first Easter dumps have arrived. PLEASE don't dump ducks. These babies haven't even got all their feathers. They have no idea how to survive. They were raised by humans and fed and cared for and then dropped off outside alone. They're terrified. Somehow they managed to survive four days like that before somebody contacted us and we were able to capture them. Purchased Ducks cannot survive on their own in the wild. They do not have any survival instincts and they were not raised by a wild mother to show them the way. If you need help with rehoming ducks please contact us or another rescue for assistance. The shame comes from abandoning innocent babies in a wild environment, not from calling and asking for help.

I believe they are both girls but we will know shortly as they grow a little bit more. These sweethearts will be available for adoption within the next few weeks. They need some time to acclimate and be socialized with humans again and also to go through quarantine to be sure they aren't sick in any way.

We tried again for Spicer the Goose (named after the Spicer Walls building where he hangs out). He and his girlfriend flew away when they saw my friend's truck. They recognized it because he's been on one of the catch teams. We had to park three buildings down in order to sneak up on them. My husband was able to try to work them down toward an area where they could be caught but they got wise and flew off a few buildings down. We typically save the net gun as a last resort because it goes off like a gun and it's usually a one shot and we've lost them if it doesn't work. However this time we decided to go for it and even though Mark got a direct hit, Spicer was able to spread his wings and shrug off the net and get away. They both flew up onto the roof of the building so that ends our attempt for the night. Team two hopefully will not be as recognizable and will go and try again tomorrow.

PLEASE HELP - PLEASE SHARE!

Stewart's results from the mass on his wing came back as inconclusive yet the lab is suggesting possibly cancer. 😭

He has an appointment with the head vet on the 3rd to have it removed...whether they have to remove the rest of his wing will be determined after x-rays. So he will need surgery, x-rays, bloodwork...basically the whole works. Based on his last surgery to remove part of his wing due to cancer, my guess is this visit is going to cost close to $2,000.

If you can help us at all, even a few dollars, we would be incredibly grateful. We are a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue so all donations are tax deductible.

If you would like to put funds on his account his vet is Lone Mountain Animal Hospital @ (702) 645-3116 under the name Wendy Cooke.

Thank you for your support....additional donation links are in comments or B!O

I've decided we need a new patch to represent all the geese Bartlett has. How do y'all like it?
