Dinah & The Dogs LLC Memphis, TN & Beyond! Service Dog Training & Placement
Started & Fully Trained Dogs Available

09/03/2026

Service dogs aren’t born knowing how to work in public.

Every skill you eventually see from a trained service dog starts with small, simple repetitions just like these. We take things slowly, use lots of rewards, keep sessions fun, and build each skill one step at a time.

Service dog training isn’t about rushing to the finished product. It’s about creating a dog who is confident, happy, and prepared for the job ahead.

Throughout National Service Dog Month, we’re giving you a closer look at what goes into raising and training these incredible dogs.

Slow reps. Lots of treats. Lots of fun. That’s what service dog training actually looks like. 💗

September is National Service Dog Month in the United States! 🦮🐾

Let’s kick off the month with an interesting service dog fact!

Did you know that service dogs are NOT required to wear a vest under the ADA?

Many people assume that a service dog must wear a vest, harness, or other special gear to be considered a service dog, but that isn’t true! What matters is that the dog is individually trained to perform tasks that mitigate their handler’s disability.

You may notice that many of the dogs on our page wear our pink Dinah & The Dogs vests identifying them as service dogs or service dogs in training. While this gear is not legally required, we choose to clearly label our dogs to help educate the public, set expectations, and discourage people from distracting or interacting with them while they’re working.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing more service dog facts, education, and a behind-the-scenes look at the important work these dogs do. 🩷🐾

Follow along to learn more about service dogs and the life-changing jobs they perform!

A little appreciation post for Chewy! 🐾💙

We wanted to say THANK YOU to Chewy for helping keep our service dog program running! With multiple program dogs to care for, there’s always something we need, and Chewy Autoship helps us stay on top of it all.

From keeping our dogs fed to making sure we’re stocked up on the everyday essentials that go into raising and training future service dogs, those boxes showing up at our door are a lifesaver. 📦🐕

Keeping a service dog program running takes a LOT behind the scenes, and we’re so grateful for services that make it just a little easier. 💙

This is a video I’ve been getting ready to film and post for several months, but I wanted to wait until the timing felt right. 🤍

When I started Dinah & The Dogs, pet training made up the majority of what I did. I am incredibly grateful for every person who trusted me with their dog and helped me grow this business into what it is today.

But the goal has always been to reach a point where I could dedicate the majority of my time to what I’m most passionate about: training service dogs for disabled individuals. And I’m so grateful to say that we’re finally there.

Pet training is not going away. We will continue to offer it, but on a much more limited basis. We simply no longer have the capacity to take pet training clients at the volume we once did because our service dog program is now our primary focus.

We currently have a waitlist for in-person pet training, with our next anticipated openings around December 2026/January 2027. If you need help sooner, please still reach out! I’m more than happy to recommend other trainers I know and trust.

This feels like such a full-circle moment. Pet training helped build Dinah & The Dogs, and I’ll always be grateful for that chapter. Now I get to dedicate more of my time to the reason I wanted to become a dog trainer in the first place. 🐕‍🦺🤍

Service Dog vs. Emotional Support Animal…what’s actually the difference?

These terms are often used interchangeably, but service dogs and ESAs have very different roles, training requirements, and public access rights.

A service dog is individually trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate their handler’s disability.

An ESA provides disability-related emotional support through their presence and does not need to be task trained.

One of the biggest misconceptions?
An ESA does not have general public access rights. An ESA designation does not give an animal permission to enter stores, restaurants, or other places where pets are not normally allowed.

Housing is a little more complicated, especially with recent changes to federal guidance, so we’ve included some information about that in the second slide.

Both service dogs and ESAs can provide incredibly meaningful support to people with disabilities, but they are not interchangeable. Understanding the difference helps us respect the role of each. 💗

Save this post for later or share it with someone who might find it helpful!
