Our program dogs enjoyed a trip to the City of Bartlett Fall Festival today! 🍂🎃

With plenty of people, new sights, sounds, and exciting distractions, it was the perfect opportunity to build confidence, practice focus, and gain valuable real-world socialization experience.

Every outing is another step toward becoming a reliable service dog! 💗

A little shopping trip with some of our future service dogs!

Today, a few of our program puppies headed to a local craft store to work on their public access skills!

Outings like these are an important part of building confident, well-rounded service dogs. From navigating aisles and ignoring distractions to practicing engagement with their handlers, every experience is an opportunity to learn.

At this stage, we’re not looking for perfection. We’re building positive experiences, confidence, and the foundations these puppies will rely on throughout their training.

As Service Dog Awareness Month comes to a close, we just want to say thank you.🐾💗

Thank you to everyone who followed along, shared our posts, asked questions, supported our teams, and took the time to learn a little more about service dogs this month.

For us, service dog awareness doesn’t end when September does. Every day, we get to watch incredible dogs learn how to become partners who provide greater independence, confidence, and support to their future handlers.

We are so grateful for the community that continues to support Dinah & The Dogs and the service dog teams we work with across the country. Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or just found us this month, thank you for being part of what we do.

Here’s to continuing to educate, advocate, train, support, and empower all year long.

Service dogs at the doctor 🩺🐾

Doctor’s appointments are a normal part of life for many service dog handlers, which means they’re also a normal part of a service dog’s job.
While I’m talking with my doctor, being examined, having testing done, or simply waiting, Gus’s job may look like this: lay down, stay out of the way, and be ready if I need him.

Service dog work isn’t always actively performing a task. A huge part of their training is learning how to calmly exist in environments that weren’t designed with a dog in mind. They learn to settle for long periods, tuck into small spaces, ignore medical equipment and other people, and remain focused on their handler.

Under the ADA, service dogs generally accompany their handlers into medical facilities just like they do in other public places. There are limited areas where their presence may need to be restricted because it would fundamentally interfere with a sterile environment or other safety requirements—but an ordinary doctor’s office or exam room isn’t automatically off-limits just because it’s a medical setting.

And sometimes, the most important skill a service dog can demonstrate is exactly what Gus is doing here: nothing.

Quietly waiting. Staying out of the way. And being ready when his handler needs him.
That “boring” down-stay represents hundreds of hours of training—and it’s a huge part of what makes a service dog capable of accompanying their handler through everyday life.

Pyrrha says Happy Thursday! 🐾💗

Some of the pups who have completed pet training with us come back to board when their humans are out of town, and we absolutely love having our graduates back!
