Sponsor a Future Service Dog!

Every service dog starts with a puppy, a trainer, and a community that believes in their potential.

Community sponsorships help offset the costs associated with acquiring, raising, training, and preparing future service dogs. As a sponsor, you'll receive monthly updates, photos, videos, and training milestones so you can follow the journey from puppyhood to placement.

The teams featured in this video are current service dog teams in our program, and every one of them started exactly the same way.

People see the training sessions, but they don't always see everything that happens behind the scenes.

Being a dog trainer means so much more than teaching commands. It's feeding, grooming, cleaning, vet visits, enrichment, exercise, and making sure every dog's needs are met before they ever step into a training session.

The training is important, but the care is what makes it possible.

Can any dog become a service dog?

Yes... and no.

Technically, any breed can be trained to perform tasks that mitigate a disability. There is no breed requirement for service dogs under the ADA.

However, being able to perform tasks is only one small piece of the puzzle.

A service dog must also be able to:
β€’ Remain neutral around people and animals
β€’ Recover quickly from stressful situations
β€’ Work confidently in busy public environments
β€’ Handle loud noises, crowds, and unexpected distractions
β€’ Enjoy working with their handler
β€’ Have the health and structure to perform their job safely

The reality is that not every dog has the temperament, confidence, health, or desire to become a service dog, and that's okay.

Failing service dog training doesn't mean a dog is bad. In fact, many washed service dog prospects go on to become incredible pets, sport dogs, therapy dogs, or working dogs in other capacities.

The goal isn't to force every dog into the role of a service dog. The goal is to find the job that best fits the dog in front of you.

A successful service dog isn't just task trained. They're a dog who genuinely enjoys and thrives in the work.

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί Calling All Mascots! πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

At Dinah & The Dogs, we're always looking for new ways to prepare our service dogs in training for the real world. One important part of that process is exposing them to unusual sights and experiences in a safe, controlled environment.

We're currently looking for local mascots who would be willing to help with training sessions! Whether you're part of a school, sports team, business, community organization, or event group, we'd love to connect.

Mascots can be a surprising sight for dogs, making them a fantastic training opportunity for future service dogs who need to remain calm and focused in all kinds of environments.

If you have access to a mascot costume or know someone who does, please send us a message! We'd love to coordinate a short training session.

Thank you for supporting our service dog program and helping us create confident, capable service dogs for the people who rely on them. ❀️

You already know that we advocate heavily for service dogs and the incredible impact they can have on a handler's life. A well trained service dog can provide independence, safety, confidence, and support that is truly life changing.

But before deciding that a service dog is right for you, it's important to look at the cons, too.

Service dogs are expensive. They require daily training, ongoing maintenance, and consistent care. They can draw unwanted attention, questions, and public scrutiny. Traveling becomes more complicated. Veterinary expenses can be significant. And perhaps most importantly, a service dog is still a dog! They have their own needs, emotions, and occasional bad days.

Service dogs are an amazing tool, but they are not the right fit for everyone. The decision to get a service dog should come from understanding both the benefits and the challenges that come with having a working dog by your side every day.

If you think a Service Dog is a right fit for you reach out and learn more!
