🐶 Who We’re Looking For
Businesses that can commit to:
- One outing a month — or even two
- A single day between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM
- A safe, welcoming environment for a dog to relax, explore, and meet new people

In return, you’ll be graciously rewarded with tail wags, dog kisses, and the joy of knowing you helped a shelter dog grow.

---

💛 Why It Matters
These outings help our dogs:
- Build confidence
- Learn social skills
- Practice manners
- Show their true personalities
- Connect with adopters they might never meet otherwise

For dogs who’ve had tough starts, this program is often the first time they feel truly seen.

---

📱 Ready to Join the Program?
Text the Shelter Manager at 757‑709‑8103 to get started.

Your business could be the place where a shelter dog takes their first big step toward a forever home.

🐾 Thank You, Diamond in the Ruff Rescue

We are so grateful — and so is our shelter — that Diamond in the Ruff Rescue was able to pull Husker Don’t, now Ray.

Ray was deeply bonded with his brother here, but outside of that comfort he was scared, shut down, and unsure of everything. This incredible one‑woman rescue saw how overwhelmed he was in the shelter environment and stepped in. Since then, Ray has made huge progress and is now available for adoption through her.

She does true life‑saving work. Please go support her, follow her page, and if you know someone looking for an amazing dog, send them her way.

🦄💔 URGENT: Hops & Barley Needs a Unicorn Adopter 💔🦄

Hops & Barley is really struggling in the kennel, and the team is urgently searching for that one special person who can give him a break. Even a weekend foster could help this sweet boy decompress.

🐾 Why They’re Searching for a Unicorn

- 🐕 He likes dogs — but kennel stress + under‑socialization means this big guy doesn’t know how to play right or dog correctly

- 🏡 Needs to be the only dog in the home for now

- 🚫🐱 Hard no on cats

- 🎾 Toy‑obsessed goofball who will happily entertain himself for hours

- 👧👦 Kids 10+ to help respect his toy boundaries

💔 What He Doesn’t Deserve

- Being in a cage 22 hours a day

- Living in a loud, overstimulating environment

- Being unable to show who he really is

He’s a good boy in a tough situation, and he just needs someone willing to give him a chance to breathe, reset, and finally feel safe.

🙏 Please share. Please like. Please help.

Hops & Barley deserves the home he’s been waiting for.

📱 Text 757‑709‑8103 to meet him.

URGENT — GUNNER NEEDS OUT 🚨

Gunner is a 13‑year‑old, all‑white shepherd who is struggling at the Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility. This sweet senior boy howls all day because he hates being at the shelter, and he does not deserve to sit in a kennel space any longer.

💔Gunner has given his whole life to being someone’s companion — now he needs someone to show up for him. Seniors like Gunner decline quickly in stressful environments, and every day in that kennel space is breaking his spirit. If you can offer adoption, foster, or even help us spread the word, you could change everything for him.

Please reach out directly to the facility for more information about Gunner. Text or call 757-709-8103

This is a wonderful quick flyer that explains dogs and their consent levels, and it’s especially helpful for families welcoming a newly adopted dog. It gives an easy snapshot of what “yes,” “maybe,” and “no” look like in dog body language, making those first days together calmer, safer, and more respectful for everyone.

🇺🇸🐾 Memorial Day Fireworks Are Coming — Keep Your Pets Safe
Fireworks season starts early, and loud booms can send even the calmest pets into panic mode. Now is the time to prepare.

---

🔊 Why Fireworks Are Dangerous for Pets
- Pets can hear sounds 4× farther than humans.
- Sudden booms trigger a fight‑or‑flight response, causing many animals to bolt.
- More pets go missing during holiday fireworks than almost any other time of year.

---

🏠 Secure Your Home
- Close windows, blinds, and curtains to muffle sound and block flashes.
- Double‑check fences, gates, and latches.
- Bring outdoor pets inside before dusk.

---

🆔 Update Identification
- Make sure collars fit and tags are readable.
- Confirm your microchip info is current — this is the #1 way pets get home safely.
- Add a temporary tag with your holiday weekend phone number if it differs.

---

🎧 Create a Safe Space
- Set up a quiet room with familiar bedding, toys, and low lighting.
- Turn on a TV, fan, or white‑noise machine to soften the sound.
- For anxious pets, start calming routines early (thunder shirts, pheromone diffusers, etc.).

---

🚶 Plan Walks Early
- Walk dogs before fireworks start, ideally before sunset.
- Keep them leashed — even fenced‑in dogs can panic and jump out.

---

💊 Talk to Your Vet
For pets with known anxiety, ask your veterinarian about:
- Short‑term anxiety medication
- Calming supplements
- Safe sedation options for extreme cases

---

🚨 If Your Pet Goes Missing
- Contact local shelters immediately.
- Post on neighborhood groups and lost‑pet pages.
- Notify microchip company so they can flag your pet as missing.
