Tethering = Teaching Your Dog How to Settle
Does your dog struggle to relax, constantly pace, follow you around the house, or always feel like they need to be doing something?
Tethering can be a great exercise for teaching your dog that doing nothing is okay.
Using a secure leash and anchor point, give your dog a designated area such as a place cot or bed. The goal isn’t to constantly give commands or interact with them. Instead, we’re creating an opportunity for your dog to slow down, settle, and learn how to be calm independently.
Start with around 30 minutes at a time in a calm environment and gradually increase the duration as your dog becomes more comfortable.
This can be especially helpful for dogs who struggle with overexcitement, impulse control, reactivity, anxiety, or simply don’t know how to switch “off.”
At Dog Tags Training Academy, we believe obedience is about more than sit, down, and heel. We want your dog to have the skills to be calm, confident, and manageable in everyday life. Our training focuses on real-world results for both the dog and the owner.
