Helper dogs Luna and Kiwi in action! Gotti and his people came to me because Gotti was an extremely fearful rescued boxer that would barely leave the house. This handsome boy would tremble, flee and panic in response to any noise or visual stimuli outside and he typically spent his outside time hiding under the bushes by the deck. Thanks to the girls and Gotti’s wonderful family, he is now playing outside, learning to feel safe around strangers and overall thriving.

Social facilitation between dogs is often crucial for these kinds of fearful dogs and having two helper dogs that enjoy playing and are socially appropriate with other dogs and puppies is an absolute blessing. Contact us if you need help socializing your dog or puppy or if your dog needs help with their confidence!

On-leash reactivity towards other dogs is one of the most common behavior problems that we run into in the dog behavior space, and it gets particularly difficult when working with large dogs, like George, this St. Bernard / Poodle mix who weighs around 90lbs. And the reality is that training and behavior modification for dogs that bark, lunge, and otherwise turn into Tasmanian devils in response to triggers is often not as glamorous as we see on TV. More often than not, the first step is teaching a dog how to watch another dog from a distance so we can slowly build their confidence and learn how to better handle the big emotions that they’re having. It looks boring to us, but if you’ve ever had a reactive dog before, you know the value of a boring walk. And if you’re having trouble with your reactive dog, trust me, there’s hope 🙂

Many dogs tolerate the stress of veterinary visits without much of an issue - they tolerate the poking and prodding and physical exams and nail trims and temperature checks and blood draws, then they get a treat, shake it off and go about their day. But other dogs need extra help learning how to handle that stress. And having a good veterinary team and the right behavior modification methods make a world of difference. If you and your dog need help reducing stress and unwanted (or unsafe!) behavior at the vet, let us know - we can help!

Recall is one of the most important skills your dog should have. For most people, it’s an emergency cue, just in case you ever need it. But for some dogs, it’s a skill they need so they have the freedom to just be a dog.

Here is helper dog Kiwi showing off her recall to side cue. If you’re having trouble with recall, we can help!
