🐾 Winnie & Sawyer are here taking advantage of a Maintenance Day! 🐾

Each dog’s maintenance day looks a little different, and that’s the beauty of individualized training! ❤️

With the heat today, we’ll be spending plenty of time inside with a few short walks around the farm. Our focus will be on socialization, exposure to a new environment away from home, and maintaining the skills they’ve been working on since day one.

We’ll be practicing things like:
✨ Door manners
✨ No jumping
✨ Their Climb command
✨ Calm behavior in a new environment
✨ Socialization and confidence-building

Maintenance days are a great way to keep those skills fresh and continue building good habits even after the initial training period.

And I seriously can’t get enough of these two! They each have such big personalities, and I love getting to watch them grow. ❤️🐶

Secret is out! 🐾🎉 Our September Pack Walk is going to look a little different this time!

Nicki with Zen Paw Farms has invited us to join their Pack Walk at the Dogs Day Out event on September 12th, with ALL proceeds benefiting the Metro East Humane Society! ❤️🐶

There will be two different walks, and both will start at 9:00 AM at the Highland VFW:
🐕 Structured Walk – a little more organized and focused
🐕 Fun Walk – a relaxed, free-for-all walk for everyone to enjoy!

And the fun doesn’t stop after the walk! There will be vendors, dog pools, a play yard, and lots more for you and your pups to enjoy! 🎉

Not All Training Looks the Same 🐾

Not every dog needs the same methods, strategies, or training approach. Effective training starts with understanding the individual dog in front of you.

Rooster has been working on confidence-building for the past couple of months, and this week he’s here for a two-day stay. His training looks very different from what you might typically see.

For Rooster, these two days are all about positive experiences, rewards, confidence-building, and creating a sense of safety. That means taking walks together, exploring the environment at his own pace, enjoying plenty of positive interactions, and even spending time doing one of his favorite activities — napping! 😂

Not every dog is genetically wired the same, and Rooster has a naturally nervous, cautious personality. Our goal right now isn’t to push obedience before he’s ready. Our goal is to help him become comfortable in a new environment and create positive associations with new experiences.

Confidence takes time, and that’s okay. 💙

With patience, consistency, and the right approach for that individual dog, Rooster continues to make progress — and we’re so proud of him!

Meet Gypsy! 🌟

Gypsy is a 1-year-old Pitty with loads of energy and a big personality! Her parents reached out after a scary resource-guarding incident where she attempted to nip when they tried to take something away. With a crawling baby in the home—and Gypsy’s habit of picking up just about anything she can find—this was something they wanted to address right away.

During our first session, we started working on her “Drop It” command and began addressing her excessive jumping. These skills will help her learn better impulse control and give her family the tools they need to safely manage her in everyday situations.

As we continue, we’ll introduce her Climb command and begin conditioning her to the e-collar to make communication clearer, life easier for her family, and ultimately help Gypsy make better choices.

She’s a busy girl, but we’re excited to see what she can accomplish! 💙🐶

💫 Student Spotlight 💫

Henry came to me a couple months ago with the sweetest heart and a few challenges—jumping, stealing snacks from little hands, leash pulling, and chasing/biting at the four-wheeler and lawn mower tires.

Fast forward to today and WOW! 👏🏼 He has a solid Climb, the littles can eat in peace 😂, his heel is coming along beautifully, his e-collar conditioning is great, and his four-wheeler behavior is SO much better!

We never wanted to take away something he loves and that gives him great exercise. He just needed some structure!

Henry and his family deserve a HUGE pat on the back! ❤️🐾

Meet Scooby! 🌟

Scooby is a 4-year-old mixed breed who is adjusting to life with a new family member—who just recently started crawling! With Scooby already being a naturally nervous dog, he is very unsure of this tiny human’s unpredictable movements. He also struggles when Mom is holding his little brother.

When children are involved, these behaviors are something we want to address as soon as possible, so today we got right to work!

We started introducing the climb command and worked through engagement exercises to help build a stronger relationship and better communication between Scooby and his parents. His family has already put in some work at home, and it definitely showed today! 👏🏼

I can’t wait to watch Scooby gain confidence, learn to navigate these new situations, and continue making progress with his family. ❤️🐶

Join K9 Companions Dog Training for our Monthly Pack Walk—a structured, trainer-led walk designed to build neutrality, confidence, and better leash manners with all around real-world distractions.
What to Expect:
- Group walk through the park and around trails
- Utilizing park equipment for climbs and practicing obedience along the way
- Controlled social exposure in a safe, guided environment
- I will be offering discounted $10 nail trims that day as well after our walk!
What to Bring:

✅ E-collars if your dog is already trained on them

With the weather getting nicer and all of us spending more time outside this event is perfect for handlers looking to improve focus, engagement, and calm behavior around other dogs and people—without chaotic “free-for-all” interactions.

I had a last-minute cancellation, which means I now have an opening August 17th through September 4th for either a Board & Train or refresher training weeks! (excluding weekends)
EDIT: I now only have August 16-21 and August 30-september 4
