Willard has just had his second chiropractic adjustment with Dr. Ruth Lacey of Ruth Lacey, DVM, cAVCA
He has had some stiffness in his low back and hind end, along with some choppy movement in his gait.
His ability to move well and feel well is not only important to me because I love him, but also because he’s my working dog. I need him to help me during training sessions and Group Day School, so he needs to be at his best!
Earlier today he hesitated before jumping up into my truck and almost asked me to lift him (which sometimes he does by placing his paws on the runner board and then looks at me to lift). After his appointment this afternoon he happily jumped in the truck smoothly and with no hesitation!
I see such a difference in his movement after each treatment! Even how he walks is smoother!

If your dog’s movement is stiff or uneven, I highly recommend booking a treatment with Dr. Ruth Lacey. She is patient, kind, highly educated, skilled and very intuitive with dogs!

Impulse control around dropped food

In Day School and Board & Train programs I operate meticulous socialization protocols. This means I pay attention to the small details and address them right away.
Little thoughts, rude intent, high or intense energy, approaching when the other isn’t interested etc.
We are all about shaping behavior and character in these dogs!

Molly flared up and approached Theo when he was clearly not interested in interacting. She didn’t respect his cues and was rudely pushing in for a selfish interaction. I have been working on her with this, and she is getting better at listening. Here she disengaged with just my verbal communication. Yesterday she would have required me to physically move in and make her disengage. This is progress! With more practice she will learn to interact respectfully and manage herself like a lady 🥰

This activity helps teach so many things! Here are a few…
- Impulse Control (no lunging for the treat excitedly)
- Respect of others personal space around high value resources (no trying to steal a treat that isn’t yours)
- Shapes sit-stay commands
- Shapes polite receiving of treats.
- Helps prevent the development of resource guarding behavior.
- Helps Individualize dogs so they learn how to tell who I am addressing in the moment.
