Good morning to all my friends. It is with a concerned and a hopeful heart that I write to you all. I was breeding Savannahs about 7 years ago and I always told my adopters that if a day should come that they could no longer keep one of my kittens, they needed to reach out to me to either return the kitten or I would help locate a new family.
Today im writing for this exact reason. Im looking for a family who is either in or near Calgary Canada, or possibly in the upper United States that is wanting a beautiful F5 female Savannah.
Kali, was born on August 8th, 2019. She is a spayed female living with one dog. She has always lived with other animals, however I'm not sure that's the best idea.
Kali doesn't come without her share of challenges. If you are interested so far, please keep reading.
Kali is super loving to everyone in her family. She is definitely a daddy's girl, but will love on and cuddle all the humans.
The reason her daddy is looking for a home for her, is because she doesn't always use her litter box. According to dad, the house she lives in is a 2 story house with a basement. In the main house there is 1 little box, which she uses all the time while in the house and has good litter box habits. The problem is the basement. There are 2 litterboxes in the basement, yet she chooses to sometimes not use them, and pees against the wall. This habit has been going on for years and has followed them from 2 separate houses. They are now moving again and dad says he just doesn't want the new house to have the same issues.
So here's my thoughts, dad says he took Kali to the vet and she has had bladder crystals once and was put on a urinary diet. I don't like Iams and Purina, so quiet frankly, im not a fan of those brands. I think a limited ingredient diet and probiotics would be better.
So when she was a kitten she lived with a siamese cat that I think did the same thing or at least I smelled a very strong ammonia odor passing the basement when I visited there before Kali went to live there. So I believe this may be a learned trait from the older cat. Going forward, the siamese passed away and they had an older dog pass away too. Kali got a puppy for a friend but she wasn't keen on that at first.
These poor litter habits only happen in the basement. I asked if she could be kept out of the basement since she has good litter habits in the main house, but dad doesn't want to try that. I don't know if it's the smell of the basement (musty, dirt being that it's underground), wether it's dirty litterboxes that are not cleaned often because the basement is outa sight outa mind, or if she has an underlying medical/anxiety problem. I do think multiple pheromone plug ins will help with the stress. Dad says he tried a spray, but i found multiple plug ins work really well and a super clean litterbox. Maybe even work towards the automatic litterboxes so they clean immediately.
Im looking to rehome her with someone who has the patience to work with her, the love to give, and the time to spend with her.
Dad works alot according to him and he's not home during his long hours and believes she needs more attention. Im not 100% sure, but i believe she is kept in the basement unless someone is home with her.
If you are in Calgary, or within driving distance, and would be interested in giving Kali a loving and patient home, please contact me. Dad should have all the paperwork you will need for not only her vet visits, but also her 5 generation lineage that is required for transport over the border if youre in the United States.
There will be a rehoming fee of three hundred as I do not want to just give her to anyone. I want someone who will be willing to love her forever and not be bouncing from house to house. She will be stressed going to a new home and a new family and I don't want her to have to go through this again.
I have her mom and her brother and im currently not in a position where I could keep her here and work with her unfortunately.
Below is a note from dad directly....
Kali is an F5 Savanna, she is almost 7 years old, she can be very cuddly, my favourite habit of hers is every evening around 9-9:30pm she comes down stairs to the living room to see when I’m going to bed, when I do go to bed she cuddles up and lays down with me every evening.
Her favourite toys are ladies hair ties, but she also likes what I would call hunting toys, the cats meow motorized wand is a favourite or any interactive toy she can chase.
She is very vocal and talks a lot, but gets very soft spoken when it’s cuddle time.
When she finds her person she want to spend as much time as possible with them, she is very intelligent and can get rather creative when she wants to spend time with her person, she “broke into” my daughters basement bedroom one night by getting into the ceiling boards through the storage room, made her way to the bedroom and gave my daughter quite a freight when she looked at the ceiling and saw the cat staring at her right before jumping down onto the bed for cuddles.
She had bladder crystals, the vet recommended Purina or hills cat food which she enjoys, she doesn’t care for wet food.
She grew up with a Rottweiler, rat terrier, and a Siamese cat, she does take a while to accept other animals around her but she becomes quite affectionate when she accepts them.
The reason we are rehoming our Kali is because she is has been peeing in the basement, we have tried “pretty litter” which helped but didn’t stop it, pheromone spray which also helped but didn’t stop it, and moving water water bowls, it would be best if she found a home with someone who has experience with savannahs, and the time to give her the attention she needs! I work construction and am not home enough to do more to try and curb the behaviour.
She has lots of toys and scratching posts, and has not been destructive otherwise (other than the odd scratch when she’s hunting any fly that gets in the house).
