SHARE!!!! 11 MONTHS NOW WE'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A FOSTER HOME FOR SWEETIE PIE AND STILL, WE DON'T HAVE ONE.
We started pleading for a foster home for Sweetie Pie on April 9, 2025 when we were trying to rescue her from the hoarder house she lived in. It is now March 12, 2026 and she still doesn't have a (regular) one (she's in a temporary foster home with a fabulous person, but she isn't living her best life in just a room there {the whole home is not a match for her}). This photo was taken at Sweetie Pie's ophthalmologist appointment 10 days ago where we learned she is completely blind (she has no eye matter at all), but when we think about how many days this amazing, precious, wonderful, awe-inspiring cat has been waiting for someone to love her and share their life with her, we wonder, who's the blind one? SE WI - it's you.
We have had some really extraordinary people become parents of our special animals over the years. Did we run out SE Wisconsin? Think of the most incredible person you know. If they have what Sweetie Pie needs as we'll detail below, tell them about this cat and that she needs an exceptional person(s) (Let us re-iterate - we will not stop short of finding the most phenomenal person for this cat - she is 1 in a million. Trust and believe, the person who we finally place her with will be the lucky one - she deserves the best person this community has to offer). And heavens to Betsy, if you are the remarkable person we're describing, why haven't you applied to foster Sweetie Pie?
If you haven't heard over the last eleven months, this is Sweetie Pie. We rescued her from some pretty horrific conditions that no being should have been living in (severe hoarding)...but imagine living in those circumstances blind. Right before we had to get Sweetie Pie (and her 2 housemates) out of that house (it was being foreclosed on), we had a foster lined up to take her...and they backed out HOURS before we had to get the cats out. (We hadn't met Sweetie Pie yet. We heard of the animals' plight in the house and that's all we needed to know to help those innocent lives inside. But boy, did those people who backed out miss out! We've had so many unparalleled animals in our rescue over the years, but Sweetie Pie is top 5 for sure. Their loss!). Thank God, Auntie Jeanne (seen here) stepped in to save the day (and Sweetie Pie) and who is temp fostering her (though 6 months is longer than we ever imagined). We would love to get Sweetie into a home that fits her needs so she can be a full part of the whole house and family (as all of our special needs and considerations animals are). Here's what she, and we, have been searching for for her:
A peaceful, quiet, tranquil adult-only foster home with an individual or couple who characterize themselves equally so and are established in their life and residence to give Sweetie Pie the stability, consistency, and predictability a blind animal needs to thrive. We are also looking for someone that lives in a quiet residential area. Sound is Sweetie Pie's vision. Her sense of hearing is uniquely heightened and developed for such. She adores listening to the songs of the birds from her sunny window seat. These sounds enrich her life and give her fulfillment - and that's what we're here to do - help our animals reach their highest potential. With such superior hearing, Sweetie Pie can also get over stimulated by sound that is overwhelming or noxious - so a home located in a busy, noisy, or high-traffic area would not be the right match for her. Sweetie Pie is in need of a home with no dogs. Sweetie Pie would likely prefer to be the only animal in the home - her desire is what you see in this photo - to be loved on and snuggled by a human. That attention and closeness also likely gives her a sense of security in a world she cannot see - so that affection also serves a functional purpose. We would however consider a home with 1 extra-mellow, laid-back, super-senior (mid-to-late-teens) male cat (no females) that we could be confident would be gentle with her where there only interest in her might be to snuggle together for a warm nap. Just a note, while Sweetie Pie's favorite thing is all forms of cuddling with her human - lap-sitting, sleeping beside you, being held, and otherwise doted on, she is just around 8 years old and loves to play toys with people (she's a pro at rolling her ball and spring toys back and forth with you!). Play is important for all animals (it fulfills instinct!) - including blind ones - so her person must make time for cuddles and play each day!
All of our animals' foster homes must be located in the counties of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Kenosha, and Racine.
Who do you know that we described as Sweetie Pie's purrfect person? Tell them about her/share this with them (and be sure to share to your page, too - you never know who your friends know!).
If you are that person, go to www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster and complete a foster application. We need one in hand to consider you for the awesome opportunity to share your heart and home with this little cutie.
If after reading the above in its entirety you still have a question, email [email protected] - our animal care and foster teams don't monitor social media so any left in the comments will be removed to encourage you to follow directions.
