SHARE!!!! 11 MONTHS NOW WE'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A FOSTER HOME FOR SWEETIE PIE AND STILL, WE DON'T HAVE ONE.

We started pleading for a foster home for Sweetie Pie on April 9, 2025 when we were trying to rescue her from the hoarder house she lived in. It is now March 12, 2026 and she still doesn't have a (regular) one (she's in a temporary foster home with a fabulous person, but she isn't living her best life in just a room there {the whole home is not a match for her}). This photo was taken at Sweetie Pie's ophthalmologist appointment 10 days ago where we learned she is completely blind (she has no eye matter at all), but when we think about how many days this amazing, precious, wonderful, awe-inspiring cat has been waiting for someone to love her and share their life with her, we wonder, who's the blind one? SE WI - it's you.

We have had some really extraordinary people become parents of our special animals over the years. Did we run out SE Wisconsin? Think of the most incredible person you know. If they have what Sweetie Pie needs as we'll detail below, tell them about this cat and that she needs an exceptional person(s) (Let us re-iterate - we will not stop short of finding the most phenomenal person for this cat - she is 1 in a million. Trust and believe, the person who we finally place her with will be the lucky one - she deserves the best person this community has to offer). And heavens to Betsy, if you are the remarkable person we're describing, why haven't you applied to foster Sweetie Pie?

If you haven't heard over the last eleven months, this is Sweetie Pie. We rescued her from some pretty horrific conditions that no being should have been living in (severe hoarding)...but imagine living in those circumstances blind. Right before we had to get Sweetie Pie (and her 2 housemates) out of that house (it was being foreclosed on), we had a foster lined up to take her...and they backed out HOURS before we had to get the cats out. (We hadn't met Sweetie Pie yet. We heard of the animals' plight in the house and that's all we needed to know to help those innocent lives inside. But boy, did those people who backed out miss out! We've had so many unparalleled animals in our rescue over the years, but Sweetie Pie is top 5 for sure. Their loss!). Thank God, Auntie Jeanne (seen here) stepped in to save the day (and Sweetie Pie) and who is temp fostering her (though 6 months is longer than we ever imagined). We would love to get Sweetie into a home that fits her needs so she can be a full part of the whole house and family (as all of our special needs and considerations animals are). Here's what she, and we, have been searching for for her:

A peaceful, quiet, tranquil adult-only foster home with an individual or couple who characterize themselves equally so and are established in their life and residence to give Sweetie Pie the stability, consistency, and predictability a blind animal needs to thrive. We are also looking for someone that lives in a quiet residential area. Sound is Sweetie Pie's vision. Her sense of hearing is uniquely heightened and developed for such. She adores listening to the songs of the birds from her sunny window seat. These sounds enrich her life and give her fulfillment - and that's what we're here to do - help our animals reach their highest potential. With such superior hearing, Sweetie Pie can also get over stimulated by sound that is overwhelming or noxious - so a home located in a busy, noisy, or high-traffic area would not be the right match for her. Sweetie Pie is in need of a home with no dogs. Sweetie Pie would likely prefer to be the only animal in the home - her desire is what you see in this photo - to be loved on and snuggled by a human. That attention and closeness also likely gives her a sense of security in a world she cannot see - so that affection also serves a functional purpose. We would however consider a home with 1 extra-mellow, laid-back, super-senior (mid-to-late-teens) male cat (no females) that we could be confident would be gentle with her where there only interest in her might be to snuggle together for a warm nap. Just a note, while Sweetie Pie's favorite thing is all forms of cuddling with her human - lap-sitting, sleeping beside you, being held, and otherwise doted on, she is just around 8 years old and loves to play toys with people (she's a pro at rolling her ball and spring toys back and forth with you!). Play is important for all animals (it fulfills instinct!) - including blind ones - so her person must make time for cuddles and play each day!

All of our animals' foster homes must be located in the counties of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Kenosha, and Racine.

Who do you know that we described as Sweetie Pie's purrfect person? Tell them about her/share this with them (and be sure to share to your page, too - you never know who your friends know!).

If you are that person, go to www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster and complete a foster application. We need one in hand to consider you for the awesome opportunity to share your heart and home with this little cutie.

If after reading the above in its entirety you still have a question, email [email protected] - our animal care and foster teams don't monitor social media so any left in the comments will be removed to encourage you to follow directions.

This sweet blind kitty in the Milwaukee area is seeking a foster... but really she is ready for adoption and is looking for a home!

(UNBELIEVABLY) STILL WAITING FOR A FOSTER HOME AFTER 9 1/2 MONTHS OF PLEADING!

I had the pleasure of visiting with Sweetie Pie and her temp foster mom last night and I just kept thinking...this is the best cat ever! Yet she has been waiting for her foster home for 9 1/2 months. I really don't get this community. At all.

Sweetie Pie greeted me and wanted pets and attention. She is so unique - she's really quite petite and she has the cutest little head. The room she is in at her temp foster home is dimly lit, so I had to use a flash to try to take a photo of her - which is really hard because when you're using a flash, the subject has to hold completely still because there is a lag between the light and the shutter closing - but Sweetie Pie's head is always on a swivel because her ears are her eyes (she is blind) - she is constantly taking in sound information by moving her head so she does not stay still and all of my photos turned out blurry except this one. Since we got her in our care in August, she has been receiving superior nutrition so her fur is now shiny and fluffy (though this photo doesn't do it justice - as aforementioned, it was hard to get any photo!), but what we were trying to capture was, as many medium and long haired cats after we rescue them and give them better care than what they were receiving, their fur grows longer and Sweetie Pie has these absolutely ADORABLE "tufts" coming off the side of her face and I can only compare it to those of the cartoon character "Sylvester". I didn't get a good shot of them here, they are impressive and I couldn't stop giggling over them. We'll keep trying on a photo.

After a little photo shoot, I played toys with Sweetie Pie. I rolled her some jingle balls and her little spring toys...and she hit them back to me! Y'all - it was really cool. Many sighted cats don't even do that. We call Sweetie Pie our little wonder kitty, and everything she does, she proves it over and over.

Adoption is never a requirement for fostering, but it happens most of the time here - because our special needs and considerations animals are the best! And fosters are selfless, come into the relationship with their number #1 interest being to help an animal (whereas adoption that does not come by way of fostering usually starts with what the human wants), and the most loving, kind people around - exactly who we want our family members to be with forever. And because we match our foster animals' needs to the right foster parent and home, they are often in a place that meets their long-term needs, and as our foster parents develop very deep bonds with this special population of animals, it's only natural they end up adopting - they can't part after loving them and caring for them so deeply. So when people ask us if we have any animals for adoption, the answer is usually no (to the public at least) - our fosters adopt more often than not. As long as Sweetie Pie's foster is the right long term match for her, they are going to have first opportunity to spend forever and always with this little gem! And someday, someone is going to realize this treasure that everyone has scrolled past, look around, (as if there was a million dollars sitting on the sidewalk that everyone has stepped over all day thinking, 'how could someone miss this?'), fill out that foster application, and be the most blessed person on the planet! Clearly, people don't understand what a phenomenal little being this is!

For all Sweetie Pie has to give, she needs things to live her best life and reach her highest potential:

Sweetie Pie is seeking a quiet, peaceful, calm adult-only foster home with an individual or couple who would describe themselves as the same. We are looking for someone established in their life and residence as stability, predictability, and routine are so important for a blind animal. We are also in need of a foster home for Sweetie Pie in a quiet residential area. Sound is a blind animals' vision, and as such, can either be enriching, or noxious. Sweetie Pie loves the songs of birds singing from her window and the crickets chirping in the summer. She is quite sensitive to sound and can be overstimulated, so a home located on a busy, high traffic street or downtown urban area would not be the right match for her as we want only the sounds that fulfill her, and none that irritate her.

There should be no dogs in her foster home, and honestly, she would likely prefer having no other animals in the home. She LOVES to be with her person and have their undivided attention. She wants to cuddle, snuggle, sleep with you, sit on your lap, and even be held! And of course you have to have those daily play sessions as mentioned above (which I don't know if I had more fun or if Sweetie Pie did!). She would love to be someone's one and only. We would however consider placing her in a foster home with an older senior MALE resident cat (no female cats) who is very docile, mellow, and uninterested. Sweetie Pie does not need nor is there any benefit to her having a cat companion (like there could be for Meg) so if there is one, we would want to make sure that she would be safe with them.

MPA serves Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties - a population of 2 MILLION+ people - and Sweetie Pie's foster home must be located therein.

This was written very comprehensively because like all of our animals, finding the right match for our animals is extremely important, but if after reading this in its entirety you still have a question, email [email protected] to correspond with our animal care and foster teams.

If you are a match for this pretty pumpkin, we do need you to complete and return a foster application to be considered as her coveted foster parent(s) and you can find it at www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster

Not a match? Help a kitty find the love of her life. Share this or tell someone you know that we are describing that Sweetie Pie is looking for them. So many of our animals find their foster (and often turned adoptive) parent because someone shared one of our animals' needs with them.

This is Teddy, one of my current fosters. If you know someone interested in a talkative but wacky cat but who doesn’t want a looong commitment he may be a fit for them. He would love to have an FeLV+ friend to play with. He is 1 year old and still a little bit of a kitten at heart.

Spread the word - if you ever hear a neighbor or friend mention that they want to help a feral cat (if a stray they are best trapped and taken to humane society), or sees that a neighbor has let their pet stray outdoors (Illegal in Dane County but it happens), these shelters can make a big difference in the safety and comfort of an animal trying to survive a harsh season.

MCP is here to help outdoor cats year-round, so every year we try to have some styrofoam cat houses available for folks who want to keep their neighborhood cats toasty for the winter, or for winter barn cat adopters! When raised off the ground, styrofoam houses can be used as-is, or you can add an additional waterproof layer by putting the house inside of a plastic storage tote and cutting a matching hole in the side. We have a suggested $5 donation (online or in-person) per cat house, but our main goal is to distribute the houses to cats in need, so we don't want the cost to be a burden to anyone. If you're interested, you can come by the shelter during business hours Monday-Friday and we're happy to share whatever houses we have left!

Teddy is so funny! He has moments of silence but is a very vocal cat. Who apparently has eyes in the back of his head!
Teddy is a stable 1 year old boy with FeLV. He’s looking for a loving home to live out his life, however long that will be. He’d love a kitty friend (also FeLV+ as it is a virus) or a home where he gets a good amount of human attention. He’s well-behaved and pretty great, you just may need to shut your bedroom door once the sun comes up. Haha!
