Right now, our pens are over physical and legal capacity. Our absolute priority is—and always will be—the safety, medical care, rehabilitation, and decompression of the dogs currently under our roof.

We have a heartbreaking waiting list of urgent dogs pulling at our hearts, but until we clear space, our hands are completely tied. We refuse to compromise on the quality of life for our pack. We know the rescue crisis feels overwhelming, but you don’t have to change the whole world to make a massive difference. To break this logjam, reopen our gates, and pull the next soul off a euthanasia list, we need to find forever homes for just 3 of our current residents this week. Brodie. 💔

I have been quiet because I am still deeply mourning and profoundly traumatized. It is simply not normal to witness the crushing weight of severe neglect, to hold a beautiful body as it gives out, and not be changed by it.

When Brodie came into our care, he was suffering far more than anyone realized. Beneath months of matted fur were hundreds of embedded foxtails, a severe infection, and a body that had been fighting for far too long. He arrived vomiting blood, later began urinating blood, and despite hospitalization, surgery, medications, and the incredible efforts of his veterinary teams, his body simply could not recover.

Ultimately, the advanced sepsis was too much for his organs to overcome, and Brodie passed away naturally and peacefully in his sleep, knowing he was finally protected. But Brodie never stopped being gentle.

One of my favorite memories is picking him up after his foxtail removal. He walked straight to me, leaned his head against my leg, and just stood there. After everything he had endured, he still chose to trust.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared his story, prayed for him, and cheered him on. You gave him love when he needed it most.

Please let Brodie’s story be a reminder that livestock guardian dogs deserve more than survival. They deserve care, compassion, and a life where they are valued—not discarded.

While Brodie’s time with us was far too short, my promise remains unchanged. I promised him he was safe, and that promise will remain forever. Brodie will rest here at the sanctuary, where he is loved, remembered, and will always be part of our family.

Run free, sweet boy.
