WIKI has had some back problems this summer & spent a month or so on different medications to help her out.
Talking with our Breeder & Vet we have decided to NOT Track this year and let WIKI fully recover. We have removed
our Contact Information from all the Tracking Lists. If you need a hand please refer to the MI Deer Tracking Network OR the MI Deer Trackers on FaceBook to find your closest tracking team. Thanks

Yesterday we took a 4 mile off-lead walk at Siedman Park. Working on obedience & just getting some good exercise - she loves to run 🙂 Today, for her 5th Birthday, we had to have a “practice track” ready for her. It was a 1/4 mike track and aged 16 hours & we ran it in the stinking rain ( she didn’t mind the rain ) & she did great. Last, was some Venison Steak for her Lunch. Happy Birthday WIKI ! Happy Birthday to the “W” Litter 🙂

My phone was ringing non stop Friday & Saturday & it was for many of the Trackers. I had to turn down calls because WIKI was limping after our FR night track. Her l.f. Paw or Leg is bothering her. I had to cancel two Saturday Tracks that called me Friday night. At lunch she was moving okay again so I called David back to see if anyone else had gotten with him yet to help. He was only 20 or 30 minutes away and I thought we could try. If WIKI started limping then we’d Quit and he’d be on his own again. No one had called David yet and he understood WIKI came 1st to me and was okay with us trying. She had to work past where they had looked last night, then she started working circles and really struggling with the track and at I mile mark showed us David’s Buck. Coyotes found it but did very little damage - Congratulations David - Great Buck.
I learned a couple things on this track - When she starts the tighter circles & really sticking her nose into the ground - coyotes have been all over the area & we’re probably close. Whatever is bothering her - She’ll work through the pain for a Track. She worked her butt off in this swamp & pulled me like a mule to David’s Buck. When we were done she was limping again. Back at Camp a little better but still favoring it. I did find a couple stick tites all stuck in her paw - not sure if that’s part problem or they were from this track. We’ll just go for a walk this morning to see how she’s doing before we take any more Tracks. Good Job WIKI !

Yesterday was pretty busy. Started with a call from Ken about his son’s shot on a nice buck the night before. Tyler’s buck took us .9 mile with 5 river crossings and we jumped him up 3 times. The 4th time he was bedded in a bend of the river & Tyler was able to make a finishing shot. Congrats Tyler.
Then a call from Eric Jon Peterson at West Michigan Whitetail Tracking wanting us to come back him up on a track. Restarted WIKI a couple times but she took us through the corn, across the road ( currently under construction )& into some thick flooded ( I know - everything is flooded this year ) bedding area with a creek. She really struggled & circled here trying to advance it. We kind of had permission from a neighbor of the owner. Waiting to see if we can go back today if he can contact the actual owner. Tracking . . . . would like to give her another try where she was circling.

I haven’t posted in awhile but we have been busy tracking. Today we got a call from Michaela and it was her first day - first time hunting. She got a little case of “buck fever” & her shot wasn’t perfect and that’s when she called for us to help. WIKI took us through the water, across the road & in circles a few times trying to sort it out. OnX says we had gone 1.81 miles when we took this pic of us with her Buck ! Congrats on Day 1 Michaela - Glad we could be part of your first hunt 🙂

I haven’t posted much but we have been out practicing. Last night in the rain I put down a track for WIKI. It was a 1/4 mile, hooves only, 11.5 hours old, rained on/off all night & a Search Start.
She did great - nailed it. I (We Trackers) tell folks rain doesn’t hurt the scent - if in doubt - back out & trust the Dog.
Knowing this and experiencing this and doing this STILL didn’t keep me from going to the slider all night long - looking out & worrying about the rain - HA. Good Job WIKI

We will be at Compton’s Rendezvous representing UBT, MI Deer Trackers & the MI Deer Tracking Network. Stop and see Wiki, Indi, Picabo, Bindi & hopefully a few others.

Also present at the 20th Anniversary Rendezvous will be the United Blood Trackers (UBT) of Michigan.⁣

They will be giving a really cool Saturday morning seminar this year (10:30 AM) that will cover the basics of how to find a tracker in your area, the states where using dogs to aid in the recovery of a hit deer is legal, and what you can do to help get it legalized in your own state.⁣

They’ll also discuss training your puppy, what breeds take to tracking well, and how you as a hunter can be better educated on how to help and not hurt a dog’s ability to do its job while looking for your deer. ⁣

Be sure to check them out at their booth and visit while you’re there!⁣
